It is difficult for me to say exactly how to hot the iron should be. I have been told aprox. 350 to 400 degrees. But.. The way I did mine was just turn it up all the way then back it down about 1/4 turn with the dimmer switch. It will depend on how much fluid is dripping onto the surface. If your not trying to make a whole shit load of dense fog, you wont need as much power going to the iron. On the other hand if you want to have to cut the fog with a knife, you will need to have the heat turned up. The more the fluid drips on the iron surface, the more power will be required to keep the iron hot enough. Keep the heat up enough so that the fluid is INSTANTLY vaporized. You dont want to see any liquid on the iron surface. First of all that is a potential electrical hazard, secondly the fluid is not getting vaporized. Thus no fog. If the iron gets too hot, the aluminum iron head will begin to warp & melt. Aluminum melts at a relativly low temp (not sure exactly) so this is why its important that the heat is controlled. Just to see what happened I wired an iron directly (without a dimmer switch) and plugged it in. The iron lasted for about 30 minutes and it burnt through. So if the power is up too high you will not explode or die a horrible death. But you will have to get another iron. So basically keep the heat up to about 3/4 or so. Keep one eye on the drips and the other eye on the iron. Get the drips going then try turning the heat down a little and see if the fluid gets vaporized or not. If not turn the heat back up a little. You'll get the idea, it takes some practice and patients. Once it works properly you have something to be proud of. Your friends will be amazed at your master skills in fog technology. Well maybe not.. but it is a hell of alot of fun. Good Luck !! |
