How NOT to survive a
weekend in London
The idea and the plans were so simple; just take a plane to London Gatwick take some Schlösser alt, clean clothes with you and the party can begin. Of course I was so smart to go to London on the Friday night after work and return Sunday night late so I could save some holidays. It sounds easier that it is and, believe me, I know better now. Here is my diary of my trip to London to be at H&P’s BBQ in Enfield, London:

Thursday: The Job for today was so easy, just pack my bags, hand luggage was for the Schlösser Alt and my normal luggage was for clean clothes. The only problem was the hand luggage since Garbage was so smart to bring bottles Schlösser alt instead of cans. After hours and hours of finding the best way to put the Schlösser in my bag I came to the conclusion that 15 bottles is the max. I could bring. Funny detail is that the first time I tried to pack my Schlösser Alt bag I already managed to put 15 bottles in it.

Friday: Since I had to go directly from my work to the airport, I had to bring all my bags to the office by train. I came to the conclusion that my hand luggage was more than 5 kg (it was 15 kg) and that it was killing my back. After work directly to work check in and have as dinner some pints of beer. At boarding time I noticed that my flight was delayed till 23:35, also had been informed my one of the stewards of Easyjet. All bars where closed after 21:00 so I decided to drink one Schlösser Alt already at the airport. Another bottle was broken in my bag so I had to walk around with a nice smelling bag all weekend. At 23:00 I decided to figure out where my gate was but instead of finding the gate I noticed that my plane had left Schiphol without me. After a small talk with some Easyjet stewards I could go with the Easyjet flight to London Luton. Informed Bron on time about it so she could pick me up at Luton (it was after all only a 92mile round trip to be picked up at Luton from South London at 12am instead of a 46mile round trip to be picked up from Gatwick). It was no longer possible that my luggage to transfer my luggage to the Luton flight so Easyjet decided to send it the next day to London Gatwick.

Saturday: After a good night of sleep, Bron was so nice to bring me to Gatwick airport to pick up my bag. Arrived at Gatwick I came to the conclusion that my bag was not there and decided to go to the BBQ. The bag would be a worry for later. After some fast shopping (some clean clothes can be useful) and a nice drive round the M25 (Only took 3 hours to travel 100miles due to a big road accident) we arrived around 15:00 at Heather and Preston’s BBQ place. After everyone had a good laugh about my travel stories the real party could start. Drink some litters of Montse Sangria, couple of Schlösser Alts, whisky, Jenever and only eat two chicken wings (had not eaten before breakfast of the previous day). At 20:00 I decided to go out for some food, had a nice kebab (only took two bites of it) and went to the local pub to have some nice Scottish Single malts. On my way back to H&P house I decided to buy bottle of Whisky for the party. Cannot remember anymore what I did after I arrived but I think some people had some fun with me.

A little intervention at this point:
Niki passed out at around 11pm. He had beer poured in his ear and was hit very hard in an attempt to wake him up. When all had given up trying to wake him up. He was stripped down to his boxer shorts, had a bucket and sombrero put on his head and his shoelaces tied together.

Sunday: Last day of a great weekend in London. Woke up at 8:30 and could not remember how I finished up on the sofa. Collect all my things all over the house. Around 12 the other people came back and the after party was started. I only had one Schlösser alt all day. At 17:00 Bron was again so nice to take Thomas and me to Gatwick airport. Of course everyone was joking that I would miss my plane before we left the house. When I arrived at Gatwick, after failing to find my flight on the departures board, I found out my flight had been cancelled. So I had to stay another day in London.

Monday: After a good night of sleep, I had to do some more shopping since I run out of clean clothes (Again). After the shopping, I went into Central London to meet John & Montse for lunch. After Lunch to Victoria to catch the Gatwick express (only a minor delay on the Circle Line due to a defective train). Much to everyone’s surprise, nothing went wrong this time and I arrived at 20:00 at Schiphol. After a very short search I found my lost luggage at Schiphol.

After this weekend I had the following conclusion: Everything in life is easy except for Easyjet. Really enjoyed the weekend and have to thank Heather and Preston for organise such a good party.
