M.A.M.E Emulators

Warning!! MAME is an emulator. It reproduces, more or less faithfully, the behavior of various arcade machines. But hardware is useless without software, so images (files) of the ROMs which run on that hardware are required. Such ROMs, like all commercial software, are copyrighted. Therefore, it is illegal to possess a ROM image file if you do not own the original ROM. Needless to say, ROMs are not distributed together with MAME. Distribution of MAME with ROM images is a violation of copyright law and a violation of the MAME license, and it should be promptly reported to the authors so that appropriate legal action can be taken.

The latest stable version is 0.36 final (2048 supported ROM sets, 1141 unique games), and the latest beta is 0.37 beta 15 (2930 supported ROM sets, 1702 unique games). For each release, four archives are distributed on the MAME site. There are four different binaries (runnable programs), one for DOS and one for Win32 console, and i686 optimized versions for both. The source code for MAME is always available. Noteworthy is that in addition to being the heart of MAME, it is also a magnificent repository of information for arcade collectors. You can also find some programs / libraries needed to compile MAME, links to other ports, miscellaneous files, free ROM sets, sound samples and artwork (backdrops and overlays).

Keep in mind that you did not pay for MAME and that the latest version is usually a beta, so do not start complaining about things not working. Your whining will be ignored. Since the source is available we encourage you to see if you can fix bugs. If you have any submissions to do, send them to submit@mame.net.
