Men's Qualifying
Nice, Worlds 2000
First of all, Elvis went when I was still at school....shouldn't qual group
B be second? Grr....anyway, yours truly placed a frantic phone call at lunch
time to my beloved sister, demanding that she tell me the results. Let's
just say that I was sat in the school office, thankfully on my own, a
sobbing mess. I didn't hear the draw until this morning, thanks to another
phone call to my already at work sister, bless her, and thought it was a
great draw for Elvis.
What, you want details??
OK - well, the good news is as you know he's first. THe bad that it wasn't
the hardest group. All I saw was the top three, who Eurosport, bless save
and keep them put on at the end of group A...and I'm working on notes in red
pen on the back of an envelope, so forgive me!
So Elvis...opened with a 3toe, great spin, just held the 3ax, 3lz, 3a-3toe
(I think my yell dislodged slates on the roof!) 3toe/3toe combo, 3loop,
great position on the sit spin, and stepped out of the triple sal.
Plushy....eep! Fell on the quad...the boy bounces as well as he jumps!
Doubled the axel, then 3a/3t, 3lz, 3flip, then fell apart again to double
the sal and loop at the end.
Abt changed his costume so he's no longer the Michael Flatley wanna be. Kept
the music, and the lack of footwork, god save us all. Did the quad, stepped
out of 3a put the toe on the end, 3 axel, nice camel, 3lz, 3lp, 3f, 3sal and
no footwork to speak of. I was screaming at the tv.
Yags is either at the start of the tape which I have not rewound yet, or
didn't get on it, because Mum forgot to tape the first half hour. From Simon
and Chris, he missed the quad the first time and put it in later on.
Michael "Glitterball" Weiss - be afraid ladies, be very afraid! Nine, nine,
triples including 3a/3toe and 3flip 3toe. There was those who thought he'd
beat Yags but it wasn't to be.
Restencourt landed two triple axels and not much else...popped the quad to a
double and singled an axel early on.
Takeshi. 3a/3toe, singled quad, 3sal, 2lz, down on 3a, 3lp, 3fl, great
spreadeagle.
Yagudin - Blondie!!!!
In a Todd the Bod costume
popped the quad to a single...big bad single....not sure what is the
music.....there's the quad again! this blond things not doing it for
me....very deep landing on 3a, right over the toe pick...flying
spin......schmooze the judges step
sequence.....3flp......3a/3t......3loop.....3sal, a little off in the air,
but he got it back.....spins.....this choreography is very reminiscent of
Laurence of Arabia.....spread eagle......3lz.....and he likes to wave to the
booms on the music.....combo spin to finish, and he's ahead of the music.
