In this section you will find all of the gems dissected there abilities and tactics with gems for different character class what gems should go where and all that you could ever need to know about gems.

There are a few basic facts that you must know about gems, they can be placed into a special type of item called a socketed item, the only items that can ever have sockets and because of this gems are Helms, shields and weapon, the effect a gem has is dependent on the type of item it is socketed into, and so gems have 3 different effects.

Also there are six cuts of every kind of gem	Chipped (worst)
	Flawed
	Standard / Normal
	Flawless
	Perfect

The better the cut the more powerful the effect will be, for example a perfect amethyst will add 9-10 strength when in a helm, where as a chipped amethyst would only give +3

There are two ways of upgrading a gem in cut,

Getting 3 gems of the same type and cut and transmuting them in the Horadric cube

And the more rare way is to find a gem shrine, if you find one and are not carrying a gem and have one in your stash make sure you don't waste this rare shrine, go back to town and get your best cut or most useful gem then hit the gem shrine. The Reason for doing this is because a gem shrine does not only give out a chipped gem of a random kind as many 'newbies' think, if you are carrying a gem it upgrades it one level leaving you with a much more valuable gem. As gem shrines are very rare and priceless I would always advise carry your favorite gem ,when playing multiplayer you want that gem shrine not your party (most of the time) and if you have to go back to town you can kiss that gem shrine goodbye
