PRESIDENTS REPORT (YEAR ENDED DECEMBER 31ST 2004)

The year of 2004 has been interesting.  Most details will be submitted by the sub-committees, namely Matapouri building, raffles, entertainment, sports and Treasurers reports.

I thank all committee members involved for their time and dedication, the outcome speaks for itself.

Legislation for non-smoking on premises was introduced on 10th December 2004, the Secretary Manager and the Building Committee Convenor will make their comments when drafting letters for the end of year booklet.

We were saddened that Executive Committee member Eddie Watson passed away in 2004. Eddie was a hard working, willing Executive member always keen to give a helping hand and go that extra mile to make the RSA a better place for all. Eddie on many occasions accompanied me when visiting members unwell at home or in rest homes and I will always appreciate his company on those visits. The Executive Committee nominated Mrs Pat Ross to replace Eddie on the Executive Committee and I thank her for accepting the challenge.

At the December Executive meeting it was decided to replace P Lilliman as Entertainment Convenor. The task has been placed in the good hands of Jack Docherty.

Early November I was privileged to attend a meeting at National Headquarters, Wellington . I also visited Trentham Military Camp.  My Welfare report will cover this, also my attendance at the Veteran Affairs.

When visiting Wellington I was invited to attend the Ceremonial Church Service of 'The Return of the Unknown Warrior'.

The service and march after the conclusion of the church ceremony was a touching and wonderful experience.  I felt proud to represent the Henderson Returned Services Association Inc.

I thank the office and bar staff for their support, also the Women's section for the time and effort when catering has been available for ANZAC Day, Pioneers Day and not forgetting funerals.

To all members may I wish you well and all the best for year 2005.
