- My tank setups is simple. I didn't put any
decorations in it because arowanas can injure themselves if there were a lot decorations
in it. My arowana is very calm and never fear to people toward him. The fins are
very long and look great.
- I keep the temp. at 27-29 C (80-84 F). The
water PH is around 6.5 - 8. I aged the water (ground water) with air pump one night or
more before i put into the tank.
- Arowana is carnivorous fish. they produce
large amount of waste. High amonia, nitrite and nitrate are common problem in arowana
tank. Regular water change is the easiest way to deal with it. Normally, I
do a 70%-100% water change once a week. I use ground water for my fish. I never use fresh
water directly from cran. It can caused the fish swim quickly at top because of not
enough oxygen and It can be fatal to the fish. The best way is aged the water one night or
more with air pump before use it. Your fish will happily accept the water. Later I want to
provide rain water for my fish.
- I have had problems with using carbon in my
filters, somehow I noticed my arowana develop some sort of head rot. So I removed the
carbon from the tank.
- I feed my arowana a well balanced diet of
centipedes, prawns, small fishes (rare), crickets. My arowana eats
a lot almost everyday. In Indonesia most of the arowana lover feed their arowana with
centipede. It believed that it can enchance the arowana color especially the red one. The
centipede is easy to find in Indonesia. I use to cut the centipede legs before feed my
arowana. The legs is so sharp that can maybe harm an arowana especially the eyes. The
small one is more safety for arowana. My arowana didn't like the arowana stick at all. So
I tricked my fish :). I cut the centipede tail and press it's shit out then I put 4-6
arowana stick in it according to the centipede's size. My arowana didn't know it but
sometimes if the centipede was dead, he didn't want to eat it. He prefer the live one. My
arowana eats about 2-4 centipedes or 20-30 prawns or 10 crickets or 10 frogs or mix of
them a day.
- However, each arowana fanatics has
their own way of raising their fish.

The price is not fix depends on the arowana
quality and how we bargain with the seller. Most of the fish didn't have certificate. Even
they had, most of them was fake. So buying the small one especially the red one very risky
because we don't know it was red or not. Buying the big one is more easily because we can
see the color but demand a higher price. The seller can get a certificate for us for Rp.
200,000 - Rp. 250,000.
