After the success of the original Dizzy, it was only a matter of time before a sequel was to hit our shores, and here it is. Dizzy2 Treasure Island, sees the return of everyones favourite egg, and fortunately the game keeps the basic gameplay ideas which made the original such a hit.

This time Dizzy has been marooned on a Desert Island, after being kicked off a pirate ship, Dizzy was actually made to walk the plank after losing the captains leg overboard. So the story begins, you have to find a boat to get off the island and make your way home.

The game revolves around picking up and using items, however unlike the first game, Dizzy can now hold three items and so this cuts out a lot of the walking around aimlessly trying to remember where you left that item which you now need in order to move on. This enables the game to move at a faster pace, there are still moments when you have to go back to pick up Items which you couldn't carry, but unlike the first game, they are few and fair between.

"To collect all the 30 coins is no mean feet, as most of them are hidden throughout the Islands, meaning you need to explore every nook and cranny."

Another change for this sequel, is the lack of any lifes...you have only one life from start to finish, meaning this game is argubly the hardest in the series! There are two islands to explore, and whislt your ultimate goal is to find a boat and return home, you will only ever make it off the island if you pick up all the coins. You see, both the islands contain gold coins and you have to pick up 30 in total to pay the boat man, until you have 30 coins you can't leave the island. To collect all the 30 coins is no mean feet, as most of them are hidden throughout the Islands, behind railings, under plants, in the sea and all manner of unusual locations, meaning you need to explore every nook and cranny.

The first real puzzle you face, is how to get past the first few screens, you are faced with a cliff face on one side and deep blue sea on the other. You can't swim, just yet, and you can't jump up the cliff face...so what do you have to do? Well, anyone who has played the original Dizzy will know that if theres a will, theres a way! The solution to the puzzle is just a case of thinking about what items you have, and what you would do in the situation yourself. The only real item you have is a trasure cheast...place the treasure cheast next to the cliff face, jump on the treasure cheast and hey presto, you can scale the cliff face and move onto the next screens and puzzles.

Like the first Dizzy, these puzzles require a lot of thinking, yet once you have found the solution you have a great feeling of satisfaction. The game is based heavily around these puzzles, there are rocks to blow up, fish to dodge, bubbles to jump on, traps to avoid and like the first Dizzy, you will find yourself wanting to solve them just to see what lies up ahead. The visuals have been improved and are now much crispier then the original, and the sound is also improved, a musical tune now plays in the background as you explore the islands, instead of just the basic sound effects of the original.

Codemasters have ironed out the one main fault of the original, the constant walking around trying to find them items which you couldn't pick up first time around. This is due to the introduction of the new inventory system, meaning you can carry up to three items.

However, it does bring with it it's own new problems...basically the game can get very frustrating trying to find all them coins, infact the chances are you never will get to collect all 30 coins, meaning you will never make it off the island, you'll maybe see that boat with the boat man just waiting for you to pay him, but until you get them coins...he won't let you leave.

"This is a better game in all areas then the original"

This, along with the fact that you only get one life, means that this game turns out to be very frustrating. It's a great game and shows how games should be done, it's fun to play until you have to start finding all them coins. This is a better game in all areas then the original, the visuals are clearner, the sound is stunning and the game avoids all that walking about of the original! Dizzy2 Treasure Island will keep you hooked from start to finish, it's not the best in the series, but it also isn't the worst. Don't expect to finish it mind...the chances are you won't.
