Tuyen Quang is located in Viet Bac, in the northern part of the country. It is characterized by majestic elevated mountains with peaks exceeding 2,000 m above sea level. More than half of the province’s population consists of the Kinh ethnic group; there are also Tay, Dao, and Nung ethnic groups.

The tropical climate influenced by north Asian climate is divided in two seasons; dry cold winter and hot rainy summer. The province has an annual average temperature of 22.4°C and an average rainfall varying between 1,500 and 1,800 mm.

Famous sites include Tan Trao Communal House and Hong Thai Communal House ( accommodation for delegates from different parts of the country who came to attend National Congress meetings).
