Get out your hard hats for a

CONSTRUCTION PARTY!

For my son's sixth birthday we had a construction party.A lot of these ideas could be adapted to a car or transportation theme.

Decorations-

Decorate with yellow and black balloons and streamers.
Print pictures of road sign off your computer and hang on the walls.
For the table, get a plain tablecloth, then draw roads, buildings, etc. on it. (The kids can help do this part as an activity.) Set small construction toys on the table.
Put out all the construction toys you have!

Cake-

Mix any cake mix according to package directions. Bake 1/2 the batter in a 9" square pan. Bake the rest of the batter in cupcake papers. Bake as directed, then cool completely. Using paste food coloring, make orange, gray and black frosting. Frost the square cake orange, and decorate with black to look like a road sign. Frost the cupcakes gray. Take yellow construction paper and cut 1 inch squares. Put arrows on some, "Road work ahead" on some, etc. Tape to toothpicks and put on top of cupcakes.

Food-

Serve snack foods in the back of clean toy dumptrucks or plastic sand pails. Serve with small toy shovels.

Games-

Beanbag toss into the back of toy dumptrucks

How many rocks? Get a large jar, decorate the lid with truck stickers, and fill it with rocks. As each guest arrives they guess how many are in the jar. Give prizes for closest and farthest guesses.

Build a skyscraper Supply the kids with pretzel rods and marshmallows, and let them build by sticking the pretzels into the marshmallows. Then they can eat their creations!

Favors-

matchbox trucks, plastic hard hats
