A VISIT FROM KLEPTO KRINGLE
(This was an extra credit project for my chemistry class last year; we had to link this parody to chemistry.)
'Twas the night before midterms, and all through Center,
All the students were studying, even Chris Porter.
Their notes and books were scattered all across their beds,
In hopes that by osmosis, information would seep into their heads.
Pens, pencils, and highlighters were nestled all snug in their hands,
To study those scientists from all different lands.
And Erik in his room, and I in my kitchen,
Were ready for sleep; our eyelids were twitchin'.
Then from out in the streets came a big roar,
But nobody noticed; they were studying Neils Bohr.
The pages in our notebooks we turned and we turned;
There was so much information; could we get it all learned?
The Greeks and the French, Planck and the Curies,
The points at which liquids will boil and at which they will freeze.
I looked at my notes; the words were a blur;
The test can't be that hard; I'm sure!
I read through the chapters and wondered what to do,
Though we'd had it all before, this information seemed brand-new!
But I kept my spirits up and kept my mind on track,
I pulled all of my notes from the year out of my backpack.
The papers were crumpled, some were a little bit torn,
But that didn't matter now; I'd read them even if they were worn.
I found old tests from the first of the year,
A few good grades, a few poor ones, my next one is the one I fear.
I pored over the test from good old Chapter One;
When we didn't have to study quite so much, life was a lot more fun.
I looked at the word problems from those first few weeks,
So many careless errors, some of my grades really reeked.
However, I saw problems that totally blew my mind,
I hadn't calculated concentration in a really long time.
But my perseverance shone through,
I was gonna pass that test, whatever I had to do.
I watched the clock as the numbers flew by,
And grew even more tired as I looked at the lightening sky.
Finally, I could take no more and over fell my head;
As I slept, I dreamt of a large man wearing red.
He hacked into all the teachers' computers and deleted all the midterms,
But just to be safe, he also broke in and searched each of their homes.
Every copy of the tests he found,
He put in a pile which he then burned on the ground.
Then he ran away from town before he could be caught,
He knew if Mrs. Pigg found him, he was sure to be shot.
Then I awoke with a start and realized I was late,
I had to go to school and face my fate.
When I finally arrived, the school was all abuzz,
The teachers were enraged; they had no tests to give to us.
I walked into Mrs. Pigg's room, and saw students galore,
"She can't find the test!" they cried. "Not on her desk, not on the floor!"
I almost fainted when I heard the news,
I hadn't finished studying; the thought of failing had given me the blues.
I wondered how this could have happened, and I remembered my dream,
As I looked around, I saw a piece of red cloth behind the projector screen.
I smiled to myself and thanked the Lord above,
For all that the man in red had done; it was more that enough.
However, my eyes opened wide as I heard a bell's jingle,
"It was no problem, and by the way, my name is Klepto Kringle."
I wanna go home!
Nah, I just wanna read more of this really cool poetry!
