Third Children

Shinji is the main character.  He is a loner and has no friends.  He is always depressed for that reason and because his mother is dead and his father hates him.  Him and his eva (which has his mother's soul) are the key to the huma instrumentality project.  He is theone that finishes human evolution when he defends Asuka from the production model evas.  His eva is the one that grows the most.  It is the only eva with an s2 organ and a pilot (the production models have s2 engines, but they use Kaworu dummy plugs.)  It is also the only eva to move on its own.  In the end, it is the one pulled into the sky with the Lance of Longinus in its neck.

First Children

Rei is a clone of Shinji's mother nad of angel material.  She is actually replaced during the show with Rei III, but her sou; and some memories are passed on.  In fact, there are thousands od clones of her, but only three had souls.  The rest were dummy plug pilots. She is the one who loins with lilith to start the Third Impact.  She dies the first time by getting strangled and then she sacrifices her life to kill an angel.  Her face appears in the mouths of the Evangelions and all over as people turn into LCL.  She spends most of the show without emotions, and she doesn't think she's human till he very end.  She also can't not follow orders til the very end.  Despiter all this, Rei is definitely my favorite character of all time.

Second Children

Asusa wins the award for going the longest without going crazy, but when she went, she went bad.  The angel made her relive her past: her mother killed herself and would rather have a doll than Asuka, which is why she hates Rei, because Rei is a little doll that would kill herself if ordered to.  She starts out as a loud flirt, but by the end, she is sitting at the bottom of the lake unable to move her Eva.  Sha has the production model of the Evangelions-- Eva 02.  She is the least important in the instrumentality project, but very important in Shinji's life.
