            This is an annual, erect, succulent, branched herb, 1 m in height or less.  The leaves are smooth, or somewhat hairy, alternate, narrowly lanceolate or oblanceolate, 3-5 cm long and pointed at both ends with toothed margins.  The flowers vary in color-white, red, pink, purple, etc.

              This plant is cultivated as an ormamental and sometimes occurring as an escape in waste places.

            It is propagated by seeds.
