It is an erect, branched shrub reaching 2-3 m in height.  The trunk bears few to many prop roots.  The leaves are grant, spirally crowded toward the ends of the branches slenderly lance-shaped.

Is is cultivated throughout the country as an ormamental and condiment and is propagated by separation.
