Traditional uses:

      A.      Root

1.      when tender, juice used with mucilage for stopping bleeding.

2.      juice is taken in fever.

3.      powdered and taken in for anemia.

      B.       Trunk (leaf Sheaths)

1.      juice applied on scalp to promote growth of hair.

2.      sap applied on wound.

3.      juice taken in for diarrhea and dysentery.

      C.      Leaves

1.      Applied to relieve headache.

2.      applied as a cool dressing for inflamed and blistered skin.

      D.      Flower

1.      eaten to promote menstruation

2.      juice mixed with curds and taken in fir painful menstruation and excessive menstrual flow.

3.      for diabetes.

      E.       Influorescence  or Flowerhead

Sap applied in forehead for headache.

      F.       Unripe Fruit

1.      taken for diabetes and coughing out of blood

2.      dried and taken for diarrhea.

      G.      Ripe Fruit

1.      eaten in the morning to encourage bowel movement.

2.      eaten for diarrhea iron and dysentery.

Food Values

           Banana is good source of Vitamins A and C a fair one in Vitamin B.  It also contains iron and carbohydrates.

 Recommended Medicinal Use

            For fever: Freshly cut trunks can be used to wrap a patient with high fever.
