“Handle with Care”

Tonight’s episode is brought to you in part by Bacardi Silver O3: “Make it a Bacardi night.” And by Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream.

Disclaimer 1: The usual. Do TPTB ever really read these and feel the need to sue? But alas... I don't own 'em and after I finish here we'll all know why.

Disclaimer 2: I have a bit of alcohol in me at the moment, and I would like to take this opportunity to add this little note of caution for fear that my credibility as a fan, and a human being in general, will be affected by this posting. I do not take responsibility for what I say (unless you like it) while inebriated. I once found depth and meaning in a Freddie Prinze, Jr movie while wasted. Let me tell ya, with 2 wine coolers and 3 Mike's Hard Lemonades, "She's All That" takes on a whole new meaning. With, that I end. You have been warned.

Chapter 1

Lena sat quietly in room 867 at the Pine Valley Inn. I lay there on the dresser waiting for her to say something… anything. But, instead of words I see tears. As she walks near me and glances through the memories I hold, a stream of tears runs down her face.

“Prague,” she scoffs. “I should have listened to my head and left that day in April and just done what was best for Bianca… what was best for me.” She slumps down to the floor, hands covering her eyes as her sobbing deepens to the point where she begins to gasp for air.

Not sure on whether or not I should say anything, but no longer being able to watch this polish beauty suffer, I talk. “Lena, you know that’s not true. You know not getting on that plane was the best decision you ever made. Not only for yourself, but for Bianca too. You know she’ll come around. It’ll just take time.”

“I don’t think so, Pudlo,” Lena quickly replies between sobs, making it somewhat difficult to understand her. “I think it’s finally over. She can’t even trust me enough when I tell her the truth.”

“Patience, Lena, patience.”

“Patience,” Lena scoffs softly. “Yeah, Bianca sure taught me patience.” Lena begins to remember their time together and how her affection for Bianca grew so quickly because of her desire to make sure that she didn’t give her heart to Lena until she knew their feelings were mutual.

I didn’t know what to say. I just sat there.

Lena rose with a start. Stood up and brushed her skirt down, looked in the mirror, wiped away her tears and fixed her slightly mussed hair.

“So,” Lena says to me somewhat seductively. “What do you think about giving this girl a chance?”

I sat somewhat dumbfounded. This couldn’t be happening. Lena was obviously still hurting over Bianca. “I don’t understand, Lena… what do you want from me?”

“Don’t act so innocent, Pudlo, “ replies Lena in her routinely seductive manner. “You know what I want from you,” she says with a sly grin.

“But, Lena… you’re… you’re… gay.”

Lena looks around avoiding eye contact and smirks. She waves her hand as if to say that it wasn’t true.

“But, Lena,” I begin again, “I was in the office when you told Erica you were gay. I believe your exact words were, ‘Do you hate me because I’m a liar, or because I’m geeeeey?’”

Lena gently puts her hand to her left cheek remembering the stinging slap from Ms. Kane that one afternoon. Then, remembering her agenda she removes her hand from her face and puts both hands on her hips, as if to give her next statement more emphasis. “That’s only partly true. I am attracted to women. But, I’m also bisexual –“

I interrupt, knowing there was still a problem considering the difference in species, “Lena, still…”

She interrupts me now, “You didn’t let me finish, my little Pudlo. I’m bisexual. I’m attracted to women,” she adds with a devilish smile and eyes full of want, “and shipping materials.”
