EVIL AND THE GOD OF LOVE. by JOHN HICK........"His book is nothing less than a defence of the justice and righteousness of God in the face of Evil." This is a great book on the theodicy problem tracing it's history through the ages.


 

The History of Christian Doctrines. by Louis Berkhof......Exactly what the title states! A thorough and scholarly work whilst at the same time being eminently readable by the late great L.Berkhof. Should be in every library!

Everymans Talmud by A.Cohen.....Printed many times ,but well worth seeking out as it gives in an insight into Jewish thinking, a fascinating book with lots of interesting information.

 


Strongs Exhaustive Concordance of The Bible..... Well there is also Crudens which frankly is more pocketable! but Strongs is "THE" concordance in the English language irrespective as to which translation you use....though using the Authorised version or King James version makes it truly easy to use. Every single word in the Bible is found together with its placing and meaning! A lifes work.


 

Early Christianity and Society.......Robert M. Grant......Again exactly as the title suggests! this is another book that should be in every library a fascinating insight into the thinking of the people of the early church, this will book will open a few eyes !

Pauls Idea of Community......Robert Banks. A historian specialising in New Testament history has written about how Saint Paul viewed the Christian Community of believers in all its aspects. Fascinating a long way from modern church life I think!

DD,FBA formerly Professor of Oriental Law and Director of the Institute of Advanced legal Studies in the University of London has written a superb book explaining distinctive aspects of modern islamic belief, theology, sacred law, mysticism and fundamentalism. He compares them with basic Christian beliefs, a superb book essential for anyone who wants to know more about Islam from the Christian perspective.
