we 6·17·04- 7:0437p- On the road...  Christof & I enjoyed the view of the mountains from behind our hostel, then explored Lake Louise and took a bunch of pictures after we checked out of the place.  After the 58km trip back to Banff, I found an over-priced lens cap leash for my camera while Chris was on the phone with his mom.  When our finacial issues were finally cleared up, we found a little café that claimed to serve Seattle's Best Coffee where Chris ate soup & I had a horrible mocha.
Meanwhile, back in the present, we just stopped at a gas station in Medicine Hat to eat subway & fuel up.  Christof will hopefully be driving through Saskastchewan/Manitoba today, but he's not doing so well right now.
th 6·18·04- 8:5419a-  Last night, after finally falling asleep with Christof driving, I woke up to a beautiful night sky at 1:30a.  We stopped at a rest stop & pulled out the star chart to gaze at the heavens.  There were a few street lights that ordinarily would have inhibited us, but the stars were so bright that it didn't make any difference.  The half hour break was just enough to prepare myself to drive, but now, five & ˝ hours later, I'm ready to pass the wheel on to Chris.  Later, while Chris was driving, we stopped in a nice roadside picnic area with a bathroom that overlooked the wetlands of Manitoba.  Chris noticed once he got out that he had hit a bird- it was still stuck in the plastic grille of the minivan.  When I got out to pee & buy a mt. dew I noticed how thick the mosquitoes were.  It was outrageous.  We were killing the little bastards that got inside the van for the next three hours.
fr 6·19·04- 3:2341p- This morning Chris had to park & call it a night. He woke up at 7ish and found a better spot & we both slept in until noon. Now, Chris is driving into Ottowa where we'll fuel up, clean up, take a few shits and change drivers. Maybe we'll cook up some Ramen, too.
fr 6·19·04- 9:4325p- We made it.  Total distance: 3300 miles- total time: 61hrs.  After driving six hours with Chris navigating, I parked the van outside Sean's apartment.  Christof made me climb the balcony to see if I could get in the slider, but I just got stuck up there in my Birkenstocks.  Sean & his roomates were still at play practice, so we sat on the stoop & waited.  Chris connected his laptop to the wireless he had set up in the apt, but the signal was so weak out on the front porch that I couldn't check my mail.  After a half an hour had passed, we decided to walk the three blocks to the local bar.  It looked like there was a high school graduation party going on in there, so we hid at a corner table and silently drank our beer.
