Thomas Hardy's room was moved from Max Gate to The Dorset County Museum to help preserve it and make it more accessible to the Public.
Thomas Hardy was born on the 2nd of June 1840. He was raised in a Cottage in Higher Bockhampton, Dorset, near the regional market town of Dorchester. Hardy started work as an architect in London in 1862. He wrote his first work "How I built myself a house" in 1865. He later moved back to Dorset to work restoring Churches for a company in Weymouth. He wrote another book in 1868 called "The poor man and the Lady" but no one will publish it. He then has several books published before his greatest book to date, "Far from the madding crowd" in 1874. He then marries Emma Gifford and the two of them move to London for a short spell, then move back to Dorset. He then goes onto write many books and becomes World famous after his death on the 11th January 1928.
There is also some great Archaeology to be found at The Dorset County Museum
