Pendants,
New Girls, and Pranks
Draco Malfoy sat in the far corner of the Slytherin Common Room pondering what was to become of his future. In recent years, his father had become more insistant that he had learned the Dark Arts. He had no say in his own future, but did so silently without a word of protest for fear of Lucius' rage. Draco closed his eyes in thoughts that only such a boy could contain.
His own father,
Lucius Malfoy - hated by most of the Wizarding World had been taught by
his own father, Draco's Grandfather, at the age of thirteen with the beliefs
that one day Lucius would rise to the throne. That belief never came true,
but the day
the Dark Lord proclaimed that Draco would be his heir, was the day that
Lucius slammed the door shut and
forced Draco
to start training to become a Death Eater in his final year at Hogwarts.
That year was coming sooner than
Draco had
hoped - much to his desparation, he'd prayed that Potter would kill Lord
Voldemort, and all the rest of the Death Eaters as well.
"Each practiced
curse was a step towards becoming great and powerful," Lucius had once
said. Draco loathed his father
from then
on, and despite his will to - kept learning. Fear of reproachment was constantly
upon him, and the beatings came down harder and harder each time.
"He is only a boy, Lucius!" Narcissa Malfoy pleaded, her brown hair pulled back . Wet tears ran down her beautiful face, and her hands were clasped together with sorrow. "Please! Listen to me! He's only a boy, with much of a future to live up to. He's got enough on his mind to care about the Dark Arts!" His mother was his only window to freedom, as she would constantly argue with Lucius about the abundant beatings that Draco recieved.
"It is good
that he learns not to make mistakes now before he meets My Master. He is
less merciful than I, but even his mercy
is not a good
thing to ask for too many times. Narcissa, this is for his own future.
This is for his own good." Narcissa slumped towards the floor as she held
her head in her hands and cried as the door closed infront of her face.
"Your scores
have not been so high, Draco. I have heard that the Mudblood, Granger has
been scoring higher than you. Do
you understand
that this is jepordizing your own future?" Lucius paused from pacing and
noticed that Draco was glancing in a melancholy and lonely way out the
window. "Draco pay attention!" Draco's mind snapped back to reality, and
he faced his father arrogantly.
"My master wants you to join his league of Death Eaters, Draco. Do you understand what an honor it is? To be invited by the Dark Lord himself? It is an honorary position to be living in the shadows of one of the Greatest Warlocks in all time? My master knows it, and has proclaimed you to be his Heir! Draco! This is your chance! You could rule the world!" Lucius droned on, his insanity surfacing for the first time in a while. Draco's face turned paler as every passing minute wandered by. "You will become a Death Eater, Draco. I can promise you that." Lucius walked towards the doorway. "Good night, Draco." He said, stiffly and closed the door behind him. Lucius sighed and looked down at the sight of his wife, Narcissa. She looked pleadingly at him, but he looked away - disgusted at the sight of her.
**
Inside his room, Draco sat upon the plush covers of the dark green and silver blankets that covered his four poster bed. He lay upon the bed, wearing his black Slytherin House t-shirt, and boxers which just happened to be green and silver to match the blankets. Flipping through the pages, he glanced at the Hogwarts Yearbook that he had purchased at the end of their Fourth Year.
As he reached the Gryffindor Page, he glanced around the room. No one was there, to Draco's pleasure. He turned to the Fourth Year Girl's. His thoughts wandered to Hermione Granger, even his Slytherin Pride couldn't help such a thing. The beatings could not change the stubborn heart of a Slytherin. The fact that he was in love with Hermione Granger remained. No matter how hard, or how often his father beat him for loving her, he would continue to love her .. in one way or another.
'Why Hermione
Granger?' He thought, before closing the yearbook to allow himself to focus
on only her. 'Am I not supposed
to hate her
with a vengence so strong? I know.. I know that I truely love her, not
just one of those teenage hormone things my Father complains about when
I fell in love with Cho Chang. But I can't love her. I can't hold her,
and whisper in her ear how much I do.'
'Voldemort would ravish that peace, and inner-mind. Then my world would be lost, even more than it is now. I wish I could go back to that time before Voldemort. When I wasn't a brat that was selfish and cruel. I would give it all up, just to go back to that time.' Draco sighed and turned off the Dragon Lamp, and settled beneath the covers. Soon, he was in a lulling sleep, dreaming of the girl he loved.
**
"Good morning, Draco." Narcissa Malfoy greeted cheerfully. "I am pleased to see that you are well. I misunderstood your father's meeting to speak to you last night. I feared he was going to give you another one of those beatings. I am to send you off to Hogwarts today. Your father was too busy in the Ministry to see you off this year, and he wanted me to give you this in his place." She put her hand in in her pockt, to carefully remove a jeweled pendant. "Your father wore this in his fifth year of Hogwarts. Yet there is a prophecy that you must never tell anyone who does not posess the family name. It is vitally important to your own safety." Draco nodded as his mother continued the family legend.
"According to your family ancestors, a heir of Salazar Slytherin was to wear this pendant in their fifth year of Hogwarts School. If this was the true heir of Salazar Slytherin - then the crystal will illuminate, giving the wearer special powers unlike any known to man. Generations have gone, and many men have worn it, hoping to be the heir of Salazar Slytherin, but alas their hopes were shattered. These men included your father, and You-Know-Who." She spat the last words out like they were poison. Narcissa concluded her family legend, as she wrapped her arms around him like only a mother would do.
"Mom, I'm sort of in a hurry to get to Kings Cross today." Draco mumbled, slightly embarrased about the present situation. As his mother left the room, Draco walked over to his closet and began to selecting among the varieties in his robes. He selected his finest black Hogwarts robes, and one black dress robe - just for the dances. He slipped the robe over his Slytherin t-shirt. Over the years, Draco had become rather built and stronger than he was in his first four years. Before he was wimpy, but now he no longer needed the protection of Crabbe and Goyle, however they still hung around him because they were so incredibly stupid. There was however- that their fathers had tricked them into becoming Death Eaters too early in life.
So whenever there was a Death Eater's meeting, Crabbe and Goyle would vanish mysteriously, only threatening they would beat up anyone who mentioned their real location. Draco, himself, had been temped to give up their real identities, but feared the wrath of his fellow Slytherins. 'Not bad, D. Not bad at all.' He flexed a muscle and grinned at himself in the mirror, like he was on the cover of Teen Witch Magazine. He slipped the pendant over his head, and tucked it beneath his robes. He looked at the clock, which read that it was nine o'clock, and carried his trunk downstairs.
His mother was waiting for him outside the door to the manor. "Draco get in the car! We're three minutes late, and we don't want to be late in catching the Hogwarts Express." The chauffer carried his trunk down the steps leading to the spacious Mansion and into the back of the BMW, and closed the door behind Draco as he got into the car. He rolled down the window with the press of a button. "Bye honey!" Narcissa waved from the door, holding a tissue in one of her hands.
"Bye mom!" Draco shouted, as he pulled back up the window and sighed.
The ride to Hogwarts was rather dull and boring as the wheels beneath him rolled on the dirt road leading to the Highway. Draco took out his pendant and gazed at it. 'What did mother mean about the pendant illuminating. I wonder how many of my ancestors wore this, hoping they - themselves were the chosen one. It must be an awful lot, because us Malfoys have been in the Wizarding World for ages!' Draco's grey eyes searched the landscape and the grey sky did not help to improve his mood.
**
An hour later, the chauffer pulled in parallel to the curb at Kings Cross Station. There were groups of Hogwarts students wearing their traditional black robes, and pushing their carts around. The rivalry had changed somewhat between Draco and Harry, though they did have minor fights about who was better at Quidditch and the sort.
Draco strode up to the crowd which included Harry, Ron, and Hermione who were involved in an active discussion. "Yes! I heard that Pansy Parkinson is going to marry Malfoy! I feel bad for him!" Hermione giggled at the thought of Draco and Pansy as a couple. "I think it's insane! It's obvious that he doesn't like her, so why doesn't she just get the picture!"
"Hey!" Draco grinned as he emerged behind Hermione, who let out a girlish shriek of fright. "Granger, nice to see you're all jumpy today. Good to see you, Potter. Weasley, where is your sister? Not sick, hopefully." He said sympathetically, his face filled with no emotion as it was.
"Shut up, Malfoy! It's getting a little early in the year to pick fights." Ron retorted. "I wonder who's coming over here right now." Ron pointed at Pansy Parkinson approached Draco from behind. Draco grimaced and sighed, turning around.
"Hi Draco!
It's so nice to see you!" Pansy squealed. "Is it true? Are we going to
be married?" Pansy whined, with hopefulness
in her eyes.
"I mean that's what the rumors say. I usually never pay much attention
to them, unless they're abut me and you."
"No Pansy. We're not getting married. I refuse to! Why would I marry you? My parents say that you are the most repulsive girl in the whole of Hogwarts. Leave me alone for once! End of discussion!" Pansy ran away sobbing.
"That was harsh, Malfoy." Hermione commented silently. "Couldn't you have gone more easily on her? She's been hooked onto you since she saw you. I have the impression that she thought that you liked her, so she liked you above all the other boys at Hogwarts."
"I have to
admit, Granger. I agree with you that I was too harsh on Pansy. She's got
to learn the truth now, before the end of
the year when
she finds that I am actually not engaged to her." Draco rolled his eyes
before continuing. "What did you guys do during summer? I was bored. Though
I did write to.." Draco blushed slightly. "Hermione. " They exchanged knowing
glances, and Harry looked at the both of them, suspiciously. "Well.. what
else was I supposed to do? Having a father involved with the Ministry is
no easy task."
"Oh really?"
Harry replied, annoyed that Draco would engage in such idle chit-chat about
his no-good father, Lucius Malfoy. Several years ago at Hogwarts, Draco's
father - Lucius had visited his son. Harry had seen how Draco had gotten
his obvious good looks, and not to mention his bad habits of being mean,
bossy, and corrupted. "The last time I saw your father, I could
see how closely
you were related to him." Ron smirked at Harry's comment.
"Oh please, Harry!" Hermione said sarcastically, while she rolled her brown eyes. "I agree with Ron for once, and that this is an early time to be bickering over something that will make no difference in the year as it progresses on. I encourage that you learn something that can keep you two away from fighting. Last year, it was that terrible food fight that you had to start when Professor Dumbledore walked in. In fact, he was the first person to get hit by a piece of food." Draco blushed slightly, remembering the day when he'd accidently hit Professor Dumbledore instead of his arch-nemisis Harry Potter, who was standing next to him. Harry'd started it all by throwing a piece of chicken at the Slytherin Table, and it'd been an unfortunate incident when it hit Draco.
"We'll try, Hermione. I doubt it will do any good, but we'll try for the heck of it. I'd be a good change not to fight the whole time." Harry said, his good nature overcoming the grudges that he had under Draco Malfoy's list. Draco nodded, silently. "Let's get on board the train." They passed through the barrier, and entered the last compartment.
**
Harry and Ron selected the front two rows at the front of the compartment. Draco, who had persuaded Hermione was the best place to sit, and Hermione sat two rows behind them. "Draco, why can't we sit up with Harry and Ron?" Hermione asked, innocently. She was shifting in her seat, uncomfortable with sitting next to her supposedly arch-enemy.
"Well, I was thinking after a couple of months correspondence that we could be friends. You know, talk a little. Look," His pale eyes searched for understanding in her brown eyes. "I'm talking friendliness. If you don't want to be friends, I understand after all the pain and stuff I've put you through."
"No... It's not that. I'd love to be your friend." Hermione said, her cheeks were blushed. "I actually wanted to be, but I was scared. It's hard to say, but I.. um.. like you, Malfoy." She smiled, rather embarrased and Draco had an odd grin on his face.
"Well, I like you too. I'm sorry about the past. I didn't mean any of it. My father used to force me to call others names, and I guess I was well forced to do it. Mudbloods are really no difference to me than other regular wizarding families." As if it were the right time, their heads drew closer as if by some powerful magnetic force that couldn't be broken-
"Ahem.." Harry cleared his throat from the front of the compartment. Ron started to crack up next to Harry. Hermione jumped away from Draco, scooting towards the far-window. Draco shifted rather uncomfortably. Little did, Draco Malfoy know that beneath his robes, Salazar Slytherin's pendant began to glow a bright green.
**
As they approached Hogwarts, Hermione shook her brown hair, and pulled it back into a ponytail and smiled, recalling the moments that had just happened in the train. Dazed and confused, but still oddly satisfied. 'Draco likes me? Draco Malfoy? What am I? Insane to like my worst enemy? It seems like a crime to love someone in the Slytherin House! I can't explain my feelins for him, but in an odd sense of mind I know that I do truly love him. It's wierd to say that whenever I am with him, I feel safe. Safe inside his arms, even though I've never been in them. Safe inside his heart.' Hermione skipped out of the train, walking the path towards Hogwarts arm-in-arm with Draco.
Harry watched as Hermione oddly intertwined her arm with Draco's and gazed up into his friendly ones. Jelousy filled his heart. 'Why do I get the feeling that Draco and Hermione have something going on? Whenever she looks into his eyes, you could have sworn you saw heart in her eyes. Draco is just going to break her heart! Shouldn't I be happy for dear, sweet Hermione? Draco is a bad influence. I'm much better than he'll ever be.' Harry paused to think the previous thoughts over again.
'Wait a second. Why am I thinking like this? I am thinking in the way Draco does! To hate others when they're happy, and to hate them even more when they get something that I, Harry Potter wanted badly. I am happy for Hermione, and I ought to congradulate them. I hope it's not official, but now I know that I'm contented with this sudden, yet wierd change.' Harry blinked, as Ron's hand came into focus.
"Harry! Where were you? I've been trying to communicate for the past fifteen minutes! Where were you again? Were you dreaming about Cho?" Ron asked teasinly.
"Yeah. It was Cho." Harry muttered, distracted. 'You still have Cho! Aren't you going out with her?' The Oriental Ravenclaw, Cho Chang was one year older than Harry Potter and was in her sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft, and she would graduate in the following year. Harry couldn't wait, but still he felt that it was odd that he felt like he couldn't wait until she graduated to be away form him.
"Hermione, I was wondering if you'd like to meet me after the Sorting Ceremony out at the lake? I need to talk to you." Draco asked, tension in his voice.
"Sure, Draco! That would be wonderful!" Hermione said, breaking the tension. "Hopefully the weather will hold out for us. Right, Mother Nature?"
Somewhere out
in the distance thunder rumbled, as if Mother Nature were giving her reply.
As the group neared the entrance
to Hogwarts
Castle, the doors to their home opened magically, and Professor Albus Dumbledore
and staff were awaiting to take them to the Great Hall.
Inside the Great Hall, the candles shown brilliantly illuminating the whole room. The Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs, Ravenclaws, and Slytherins sat at their designated tables. Draco reluctantly let go of Hermione as he bid them farewell 'for now' as he put it to Hermione.
After the Sorting Ceremony, Professor McGonagall felt she had an announcement to make. "Attention students! I have one more addition to the Sorting Ceremony! Sara Chang!" There were gasps, and Cho sat with a brilliant smile on her face as if from some unknown pride.
Sara smiled and winked at her sister, Cho. She placed above her head the Sorting Hat, and it began to examine her thoughts.
'Dear.. Dear.. Your heart is torn up between Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Gryffindor. Ravenclaw is your family's house. Slytherin is because you are cunning and sly. Gryffindor because you are noble and loyal. Let's see.. You will be fit for Gryffindor!' "Gryffindor!" The hat shouted, and Sara's heart dropped as her sister's smile turned into an expressionless face.
Broken hearted, Sara Marie Chang sat down at the end of the Gryffindor Table next to the infamous Harry Potter. Professor Dumbledore stood up, and smiled looking at the many students. "Welcome to the returning students and new-comers to our school. Though we look forward to a wonderful year, a rumor has been spread. Voldemort (everyone shuddered) is to reveal his heir, and as a result new restrictions must be added. I hope you will abide to these new rules, as they are for your personal safety while at Hogwarts. Enjoy your year, and may the feast begin!"
"Uhh.. Hi there." Harry said, with forced enthusiasm. He looked at Sara, who was an exact duplicate of her sister, Cho. 'This is going to be hard..' He thought, grimacing at what would happen if he accidently mixed one up with the other.
"Hello." Sara said, softly. 'I thought I'd get into Ravenclaw for sure!' She frowned and poked at the turkey and mashed potatoes.
"Something wrong?" Hermione asked, as she examined the young Oriental's eating habit. "You can tell us. We're part of your house." She reminded, after Sara remained quiet for some time.
"Well all my life, I was supposed to live up to the family honor of being in Ravenclaw. Now that I'm not, I don't know what I'll do." Sara complained, Hermione felt sympathy.
"What year are you in?" Ron asked, his mouth stuffed with the turkey with gravy. Hermione shot him a look.
"I'm in my fifth year."
Harry smiled, but behind it was a grimace. 'This is going to be worse than I thought..'
**
"Draco?" Hermione whispered, standing and glancing around quickly. "This isn't funny!" She turned around, and there he was with a half-smile and half-smirk on his face. "That wasn't funny."
"It wasn't supposed to be." Draco grinned, and sat down on the bench near the lake. "I wanted to ask you something. Before.. You know on the Hogwarts Express how you said that you liked me." Draco started, Hermione sat down next to him on the bench over-looking the lake. "Did you really mean that?"
"Of course I did, Draco. It's not like I could have said somethhing like that to Harry. He's taken by Cho Chang, since last year." Draco grinned, bemused. "Well, I really do Draco. Despite what you might think."
"Hermione, you know our friends might abandon us for this." Draco frowned. He hugged her closer. "You understand right?"
"That's why we have to keep this in secret." Hermione whispered. "Draco, please?" Hermione begged quietly.
"Sure, Herm. Can we talk about it a bit though?' Draco asked, as he gazed up at the stars.
**
"So where did you go to school before you came here?" Ron asked. The trio of Harry, Ron, and Sara were sitting on the Gryffindor couch. Hermione had disappeared mysteriously after the Sorting Ceremony, but Harry and Ron made no move to find her. "Girls are wierd." was all they could think of at the time.
"I went to Beauxbatons." Sara replied, still in shock that Cho, or herself would have to break the news to Mr. and Mrs. Chang. "Are there any positions on the Quidditch Team?"
"Well if you're asking for a seeker, it's taken already." Ron said, proudly. Harry blushed slightly. "But I think that there's a spot in the Chasers Spot. You should go see Alicia Spinnet who is the team Captain. I think Harry can set you up to see her. Eh, Harry?" Ron asked, nudging Harry slightly.
"Uh.. Sure. Why not?" Harry replied, uncertainly.
"Oh. I usually do play seeker, just like my sister. Though I can play a Chaser.." Sara looked out the Gryffindor window over-looking the Quidditch Fields. "Is there anything I should know about for my first day at Hogwarts?"
"One person to watch out for," Fred Weasley popped up behind her chair on the left side.
"Actually two, Fred." George Weasley corrected. He popped up on the right side of Sara's chair.
"Oh." Sara replied, rubbing her eyes to make sure that she wasn't seeing anything.
"I'm Fred, and this is my twin brother, George." Fred stuck out his hand, which Sara shook uncertainly. "So no, you're not seeing anything." Fred affirmed.
"You're Cho's sister, aren't you?" George asked. Sara nodded, and rolled her eyes.
'I wish people wouldn't refer to me as Cho's sister.' Sara thought sadly. "Or so I'm referred to as." Sara said, looking at her hands which were folded neatly in her lap.
"Well, speak of the devil." Ron said as Hermione opened the door to the Common Room.
"Where have you been?" Harry asked suspiciously.
"I've been out. Okay? Harry you don't have to keep a close eye on me. I'm fifteen! You've got to let me take care of myself!" Hermione fumed, and stormed upstairs to her dormitory.
"What's with her?" Sara asked, her voice raised a bit. Hermione had acted like a friend since she sat next to her in the Gryffindor Table in the Great Hall.
"Must be Malfoy." Ron answered, looking after Hermione.
"Who's Malfoy?" Sara questioned. "Sorry, I've only glanced through the Hogwarts Yearbook. I never really got in any of the names besides yours, Harry." She blushed. "Cho always used to flaunt over to me and tell me 'I'm writing to Harry Potter!'." Sara grinned.
"He's some Slytherin Creep." Fred answered before Harry and Ron could go about ranting about what an evil creep that Draco Malfoy is.
"He's in our year, unfortunately." Harry added.
"I'm going to check on ... What's her name again? Sorry. I'm terrible with names." Sara apologized.
"Hermione."
"Yeah. I'm going to check on Hermione. See you tomorrow." Sara got up and climbed the stairs slowly, examining the door of each room along the way.
**
"Harry?" Ron asked, poking his friend with the tip of his finger. "Are you awake in there?"
"Yeah! You just woke me up again!" Harry complained, rolling over on his side to face Ron.
"What do you think of Sara?"
"I'm going to have a hard time adjusting to this." Harry muttered, suddenly not wanting to sleep.
"To what, Harry?"
"To having an exact duplicate of Cho in the same house as I am at Hogwarts."
"She seems nice.." Ron's voice trailed off as he finally dozed off.
'Could she be too nice? Or is this the way she is?' Harry closed his eyes and took off his glasses and put them on top of the books stacked on the night stand.
**
"Hey Hermione."
"Go away." Hermione sobbed.
"It's Sara."
"Oh. Hi. I thought you were.."
"Ron and Harry. I know." Sara finished off for her. "Harry cares about you like a sister. He's just over-protective." Hermione nodded her head and wiped away her tears.
"I know, except that there's one thing that he can't protect me from."
"What's that?"
"You've got to promise me that you won't tell a soul." Hermione looked at Sara deathly serious. "If you tell anyone, it will probably get me and another person into trouble."
"I promise, Hermione. I won't tell anyone." Hermione looked at her, just to make sure that she wasn't bluffing.
Hermione took a deep breath and let everything run its course. "Alright. Well I'm going out with a Slytherin. Draco Malfoy..."
"Oh. Now I see." Sara said, clearly not seeing what was the problem.
"You don't understand do you?"
"Well what's wrong with dating someone from Slytherin?"
"It's because I'm in Gryffindor. He's in Slytherin. We don't exactly have friendly houses when it comes to the other house." Hermione explaied quickly.
"I won't tell anyone, Herm. I swear!" Sara promised, as she began to unpack.
"Hey, Sara. Get some sleep. You're in for a long first day." Hermione muttered as she fell asleep.
"Oh I will.." Sara whispered softly so that the two other girls, Pavarti Patil and Lavender Brown wouldn't hear.
**
"Welcome class to another wonderful year at Hogwarts." Professor Severus Snape grumbled, not happy with the scheduling of the beginning of the year. "I could have been in the Hawaiian Islands, but no.." He grumbled before forcing a smile. "Alright. Welcome to Potions. Right now I'll have to assign partners. Let me see." Proffesor Snape glanced around the class. 'Ahh.. Just how I like it. Half-asleep!'
"Mr. Malfoy, you're with Granger." Draco shot a warning sign at Hermione. Hermione nodded her head. "Weasley, you're with Miss Parkinson." Ron wrinkled his nose in disgust.
"Potter, You're with Miss Chang. Perhaps you can show her the basics of Potions at Hogwarts." Harry nodded, thankful not to be stuck with Malfoy, Crabbe, Goyle, or Pansy.
"Alright students. These are you first 9-week partners." 'Good luck.' He thought silenty, chuckling. "You need to get to your lab stations and preform the potion on the board. If you cause a mess then you will stay after ward for detention! Now get to work!" Professor Snape snapped.
'Just like Professor Snape.' Harry rolled his eyes and heated up the cauldron. "Okay."
"So? You don't really like Professor Snape do you?" Sara asked, cautiously watching Professor Snape walking around the dungeon examining how each pair's cauldron was going.
"Longbottom! What is this?" Professor Snape spat. "Do you expect to pass potions this term or fail it like last year?"
"P-p-aa-s-s.."
"What?!" Professor Snape asked infuriated.
"Pass, sir." Neville spoke, timidly.
"That's good. Now get to work on this cauldron! Before it explodes!" Professor Snape sneered before he turned to Hermione and Draco's cauldron.
"Good work, Draco. Fifteen Points to Slytherin." Professor Snape said cheerfully. "Oh yes. Granger take one point for Gryffindor."
Hermione groaned, but said nothing. Professor Snape went onto Ron and Pansy's cauldron. "Weasley, what are you doing to the worms? You're mutilating them!"
"Professor! Weasley's not doing anything right!"
"What are you doing Miss Parkinson?"
"I'm reading the directions." Pansy said, rolling her eyes and checking the clock on the wall.
"Oh really?" Professor Snape sneered. 'That girl is nothing but trouble. I would hate if my own father made me marry a selfish brat like that.' Professor Snape felt sympathy for Draco Malfoy.
Professor Severus Snape walked onward to Harry and Sara's cauldron.
"Oh. I see we have another Chang to put up with?"
Sara grimaced, but said nothing about it. "It's nice to meet you too, Professor." Sara said, slightly mocking the tone that Professor Snape had just spoke with.
"Are you mocking me, girl?" Professor Snape said, threatening.
"No sir! I'm just working on this cauldron."
Harry tried his best not to burst out laughing. "What's so funny, Potter?"
"Oh nothing, Professor." He looked at the back of Professor Snape's robes as he walked away. "Did you do that?" Harry whispered, as he pretended to add something to the Potion.
"Guilty as charged." Sara raised eyebrow as she held her hand up as if swearing by oath. "Are there any pranksters around here?"
"We've got two of the best." Harry explained. "You'll meet them as soon as they hear about your joke."
**
"She actually got away with it!" Ron said in awe. "Professor Snape thought that it was Peeves. Though who would have thought that Peeves had such neat handwriting."
Hermione chuckled. "Well there is one good thing.. He didn't take away our one point." The table sighed. It was known that Professor Snape hated the Gryffindors, but tried not to let his grudge hold out. "He should have given us more than that! I mean we did complete our potion faster than some of the other group and he goes ahead and gives D- Um.. Malfoy fifteen points and us Gryffindors, a single point."
"Well, if it isn't the Practical Joke Queen." Fred and George Weasley came over. "Congrats! We heard that you were wondering about the two best pranksters in Hogwarts, as we know it. We're here!" Fred and George struck a pose, and grinned. Sara giggled, and Hermione couldn't help but start laughing.
Ron shook his head and pretended to have a conversation between Harry and Pavarti. "We heard what you did to Snape! That was sweet! We've never pulled a stunt like that!" George continued. Fred grinned from ear-to-ear.
"That's not the only thing that's about to hit Snape. Watch.." Sara motioned towards the Teacher's table, where Professor Snape was involved in conversation with Professor McGonagall and Headmaster Dumbledore.
The distinguished Professor didn't know what hit him. As soon as he got up from the Staff Table, everyone in the whole of the Great Hall started to laugh - minus some of the Slytherins who were loyal to Professor Snape.
"What's so funny?!" Professor Snape snarled, he turned around in a circle, but couldn't seem to put his finger on what everyone was laughing about.
"That's the
piece of tape, I've saved to put on a mean teacher." Sara whispered to
Fred and George who were busy laughing their heads off. 'That's what you
get for messing with a Chang.' Sara thought smugly before continuing to
laugh about it with her new friends.
