Convoy Returning From North Africa
Max Rosenfeld
In his own words

Stan Parker always swore I made up this story, but I swear it's true:
On our return from a convoy to North Africa with a large number of supply
ships, I was standing next to the Commodore in charge of the the entire
convoy. (The Phelps was the Flagship of the convoy and the Commodore was in
charge of the entire fleet of ships).
He was assigning the destination of the returning Liberty ships, as they were
called. Each ship's homeport was designated by a color: Boston was "green",
New York was "blue",New Orleans was "purple". He could not locate the color
for Norfolk. He searched his list, swearing a bit. In frustration, he said ,"
Three five, three five (the ship's designation in the convoy, your destination
is --and he lowered his voice to a whisper so the submarines couldn't hear him
-- your destination is Norfolk."
Apparently, I was the only one who heard him -- but it's true.

Do you have a story to tell? Let me know.
