CARROT OR POTATO POULTICE This is applied directly onto the sores and changed as soon as the poultice becomes warm. Poultice consists of grated carrot or potato wrapped in gauze/thin cloth. This will speed up the healing process and bring some local pain relief. It is also useful for the swollen glands that sometimes happen as a side effect. Carrot is very good with old swellings.
SLIPPERY ELM BARK POULTICE Slippery Elm Bark powder is mixed with water and warmed over water in a ceramic or glass bowl. So the poultice doesn't stick. Make sure that it also doesn't dry out. This poultice takes time to understand how warm you can put it on the skin. Don't burn yourself! Good for swollen glands as well. Might not be one of the best forms of treatment for Herpes as the sores are better treated by cooling rather than heating them. This poultice is better used for different other types of lumps that require heat.
LOTS OF SLEEP I can remember many times that I was really stressed out and a good nights sleep made all the difference. Ofcourse this occurs when you are more at ease with yourself and accepting of what you have. And I am a person with a sleeping problem so I know it is not easy.
DRINK LOTS OF WATER Water ofcourse is widely known to help almost everything.
DO NOT USE SOAP Of any sort. I used to use a natural brand of soap called "Herbon" and can still use it everywhere else but now I bath the affected areas with Salt water. Bicarbonate of Soda, otherwise known as Bicarb, is even better.
SALT WATER Swim in it. Bath the affected sores with it. I remember on a few occasions that I was able to put the Herpes off by going for swims in the surf everyday. Oh and before you get your clothes on make sure your really dry. The wounds/sores rely on moisture/bacteria and that prolongs the outbreak. Lately (2007-2008) saltwater has been working the best for me. I bath with sea salt and when I can go swimming. I get the good quality stuff from the health food store and NOT ROCK SALT.
SOLANUM NIGRUM Unfortunately the ointment I was using by the company Greenridge has stopped manufacturing the product but I did find another ointment by "Pure Botanicals". Their address is 322 King Street Newtown 2042 Sydney Australia. Their phone number is 02 90340555. This ointment is not as good as the Greenridge brand and has entirely different ingredients but it is very cooling. Unlike the Greenridge one I wouldn't use it on the genitals but is good for sores anywhere else. It has also been marketed for Cold Sores and not Herpes type II but they are the same thing so don't let that worry you. Any oils (such as Tea Tree oil) I don't use as the sores need to be dry and have air. The ointment is OK for the tingling and pain on the skin. I find that it relieves the pain as it numbs the nerves and is cooling.
I have been using a tincture that I make and I have used it for at least 8 years. This was the best treatment for years. It can be used at all stages of the cycle. Except for on the genitals because of the alcohol content. It can be used on sores(in the genital region) but make sure that you only put it on the sore because the genitals are sensitive....please leave a message on the guestbook for a sample to be sent to you at a minimal charge(Australia only at present but leave a message and I will see what we can sort out.
The other good thing about the Solanum Nigrum plant is that it can be found growing wild. I find it where the soil is poor. Usually next to train lines or old buildings/alleyways. Crushed, fresh this is the best way to use the plant and there seems to be less tendency for scaring this way. I often leave the house with it on me taped with a piece of "micropore tape". In Australia "3M" makes it. There is also a tan coloured version that even better for those with allergies.
Check out the pictures of the Solanum Nigrum plant on the photo's page. You can crush the plant fresh and it is safe in my experience to apply it to the skin. If you have any doubt just try it on a small area of the skin first and see if you have any allergic reaction.
I also suggest that you find a non-stick dressing(I recommend "Telfa" a brand known in Australia) and paper type tape to hold it down with. It is necessary to cover sores that are not in the genital region as the sun and rubbing can aggrevate the sores. Also you can burst the sores/blisters and spread the puss to other people(and other parts of your body). The use of dressing is for when you need to go outside. If you are staying indoors and can resist touching then all the better. You will heal faster. I spray or dab quite a bit of my Solanum Nigrum tincture on it.
TEA TREE COLD SORE CREAM by THURSDAY PLANTATION This is very good for external use and never on the genital region. I have found it useful with the first tingling signs. Then if I repeat it if the tingling happens again and so on well then there is no outbreak that occurs. That was my experience anyway in 2006. This is a surprise to me too because years ago it didn't work at all so it must be a timing issue. Oh and with this application I don't cover the potential infectious site(usually on my tailbone) because air needs to flow.
RASPBERRY LEAF TEA for the ladies. Helps with Vulva pain/irritation and it is recommended to keep taking it daily to tone the uterus. There is also a really good book called "Herbal Healing for Women" by Rosemary Gladstar. This book has a lot of good advice on us women getting in better shape with herbs so we prevent or limit outbreaks plus many other very useful womens problems to fix.
HIMALAYAN ROCK CRYSTALS wow this salt is great. I got a slab that they sold at a Natural therapy centre as a Salt soap but really it isn't. I use it carefully especially where I have had outbreaks but watch out it can trigger them or bring them on earlier. It is powerful so when you wipe the the skin be very careful. It will help with circulation and rough dry skin which is something that is not good to have especially for Herpes sufferers. I also wipe it down my legs for circulation and tried it on a lump that was developing in a very sensitive area the other day. That stopped the possible outbreak in it's tracks. I will tell you though that the stinging was unreal at first. I held the slab/bar against the lump for a few seconds and then it hit me. Geez. After 3 days of discomfort after 2 doses like the above the lump was gone. After less than a day. The discomfort was gone after the first application. Will keep this up and let you know how it goes but I like the results so far. I am also using the ground version of this salt on salads. Very tasty!
SUGGESTIONS MADE BY SOMEONE WHO CONTACTED ME VIA THIS SITE This is in the words of the person:I have rather had relief with the mud therapy on the face and neck area and ear area.. this is a herbal Himalayan Mud and works much better than the acyclvir ointment (Herpex ointment by Torrent in India). one can mix this with Camamime oil or sandal wood powder. Also another medication is the wheat grass powder - its juice or its application. Rather having wheat grass juice daily for months is for immunity. (These things are available in India) I have just been out of the mud bath with sandalwood powder in it.. it is so refreshing and i can see that a few of my blisters on the neck and chin have become brown and a few have turned more white, which means that the work is on.. and the aroma of sandal wood with mud is very indian and refreshing.
ANOTHER SUGGESTION MADE BY SOMEONE WHO GOT ON THE GUESTBOOK This person said she had used a cream called Licrogel and said they had good results. The person said they got it from a natural health practitoner but didn't say in what country. But click on the link above and more details are there.
