Aries and Zuess
Febuarury 23, 20001
Aries and Zuess currently reside at my school in a 33 gallon tank. They never have had completly proper care, and at first their only source of heat where two 25W Day lights! They never even had a night day schedule, let alone enough heat for the both of them. Their terriarum consisted of potting soil and plants (spider, ivy, fig, and unknown) a water dish, and a few pieces of logs. It was infested with very little beetles, measuring approx. 1mm-2mm long. Ugh. I voluntered to be in charge of them at the begginning of the 2000 school year. Just after New Years, me and a special someone completly redid their tank. Click here to go to their redesgning Page, which has sanitizing info, substrate info, and why we did what we did.
I also bought them one 50W and one 75W heat lamps. These give plenty enough heat, and also allow for 2 basking spots, which is necessary. However, during Feburary 2001 a huge change occured in their lifes. Zues was always the dominant male, while Aries has always been more flightly, and until after the 2001 year, rarely was out basking, due to Zues scaring him away. Even a 33 gallon tank is not large enough for two males! While, during the middle of Feburary, Aries decided he had enough. Within a a week Aries became the dominant male, vicously attacking Zuess. Click Here to see pics of Zuess battle scars. Zuess then stopped eating and basking, instead, he started to waste away at the bottom of the enclosure, hiding. At this point I had enough, and took him home. (to my aunt and uncles great dislike). Click Here to go to Anole First Aid page. Currently, Zuess has been with me for four days, living in my extra 5 gallon (ick!) tank, and is doing well providing the circumstances, though he is still not eating crickets on his own, and is being hand fed. During this time, I am in the process of making a barrier to place in their tank. It will be out of the plexiglass covers that come for flouerecent light fixtures, this way it is not see through, but is realtive easy to cut, keep clean, and handles high humdity fine. I would like to give a sincere thank you to Candy from the Ontario Reptile Rescue for her help during this time. Without her, Zuess and I would have been in serious trouble. You can visit her forum here. I will be keeping this updated as time goes by.
