I am researching the FINICAL family. The name was previously spelled FENCHEL and a member of this family immigrated to the U.S. from Germany on September 30, 1829, landing at the port of Baltimore MD. They settled in Ohio and eventually migrated to other states. FENCHEL are "Schwaben", in english "Suebians". this early German tribe or nation had its own language and customs (much like the better known Bavarians). The capital of Schwaben is Stuttgart Germany.
They resided primarily in the southern part of Germany in the Black Forest area.
The name FENCHEL means the merchant of spices. Named after spice plants which was pronounced in the medieval German "Venichel". It comes from the Latin, "Foeniculum".
I have a lot of information but would like to fill in more of the descendants of this family. If you have any information, please contact me.
Thank You
