Hessentag

                                                Hesse Day

In 1961 Minister-President Georg August Zinn founded Hessentag. His idea was to create a festival that would bring the citizens of Hesse together. The festival has undergone quite a few changes since its beginning and is now a model for other state festivals. At first Hessentag focused on traditions of the past such as costumes native to Hesse. Now it celebrates many aspects of local culture. The festival attracts thousands of visitors to a different town each year. Preparatory work begins years in advance. It is not only a honor to be chosen as the site of Hessentag but also brings about a great economic impact to the town.
