Proclamation

 

Whereas, the Hessen-Wisconsin Consortium of 1998 was developed in recognition of

The 25th anniversary of the Wisconsin-Hessen Sister State Program; and

 

Whereas, the idea was to increase student mobility between the two sister states and

Enhance mutual cooperation among higher education institutions; and

 

Whereas, the Governor of the State of Wisconsin, Tommy Thompson, and Hessen officials signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” creating the Hessen-Wisconsin student exchange program in December 1998: and

 

Whereas, on June 7, 2001, to solidify a far-reaching student exchange program between these two states, the agreement formally established the mechanism for an exciting new student exchange between Germany and the United States; and

 

Now, Therefore, I, Mark Johnsrud, Mayor of the City of La Crosse, do hereby proclaim Friday, September 12, 2008 as

 

Hessen-Wisconsin Day”

 

in La Crosse and call upon the people to observe this day with appropriate programs, activies, and ceremonies supporting the State’s theme, “The Hessen-Wisconsin Exchange: Celebrating 10 years of of sister-state collaboration with Hessen, Germany, in 2008!”
