We were then fortunate enough to find Moshe Feiglin, head of Manhigut Yehudit ("Jewish Leadership"), in his office in Karnei Shomron. Feiglin is widely credited with helping to organize the stinging rebuke that the Sharon government received in the Gaza withdrawal referendum in May, when Likud members overwhelmingly rejected Sharon's plan to abandon Jewish communities in the Yesha. Feiglin invited us into a nearby park (shown here, with a wall to protect Jewish children from Arab snipers) where we heard him speak about changing Israel from a secular shtetl (ghetto) of the Jews into a proud Jewish state. Feiglin believes that new Jewish leadership is the only way for Israel to get itself back on track as a Jewish state. He told us that Prime Minister Sharon is fighting the reality of HaShem (G-d). We agreed that Sharon cannot succeed, no matter what tactics he employs. |
