Episode Thirty Five

Montoya Bodega

Jamie was helping Theresa restock the shelves when the chime over the door rang. He was going to just keep stocking when he heard his name. He stood and looked over the shelves, seeing Julian. "Hey, Uncle Julian," he said, coming around the shelves.

"Hey, Jamie," Julian replied. "I need to talk to you."

Jamie nodded. "What about?" he asked.

"Let's go outside," Julian suggested.

Jamie followed Julian outside. "What's wrong?"

Julian sighed. "Malcolm's ordered a guard on you."

"Why?" Jamie asked.

Julian quickly explained about their suspiscions concerning the brakeline, and about how they knew Jamie had been raped. "Malcolm wants a guard on you for awhile. Just until he thinks it's safe."

"And how long will that be?" Jamie asked, frustrated. "And just how under guard will I be? Am I gonna be able to have a date with my girl without being watched?"

"It's for your own safety. I've got day shift, Hank Powers has night shift. All this means is that we'll be around. I'll be within 15 feet of you at all times during the day, Hank will be stationed in a car outside the Grant Mansion all night."

"This sucks."

"I know. But hopefully it'll be over soon."

"I hope so," Jamie said, sighing.

Med Center

Summer walked into the hospital and looked around nerously. She didn't want to go to the family doctor, for fear he'd tell her mother, so she had come to Med Center for a more accurate test. Only now she was losing her nerve. She didn't want some stranger examining her and giving her the test.

"Summer?" Sarah said as she walked over. "You are Summer aren't you? Jamie's girlfriend?"

Summer nodded nervously. "Yeah. You're Dr. Reed, right?"

"Right," Sarah said smiling. "Do you need something?"

Summer nodded again. "Yeah. I do."

"And what you need is?" Sarah furrowed her brow at the inaudible answer she recieved. "What?"

"A pregnancy test," Summer said a little louder.

Sarah's eyes widened. "Oh my."

"Yeah," Summer replied, looking down. "I took a home test, but I need to know for sure."

"Come on, we'll get you the test right away," Sarah said, putting an arm around Summer's shoulders and leading her to an exam room.

Virginia's Diner

Diego and Theo had left not too long ago, leaving Matt alone at the table when Laura walked over to refill his soda. "Ditched you, huh?"

"It's their favorite thing to do," Matt replied with a short laugh. "Theo had to go meet his dad, their heading to Laramie for a Football game. And Diego had to go meet his boyfriend."

"I still can't beleive Diego Montoya's gay. Why are all the gorgeous ones gay?"

"I'm not."

"I said gorgeous ones," Laura countered with a mocking sneer.

"Cute," Matt replied. "What about David?"

"Fine, all the gorgeous sweet ones," Laura corrected herself. "Happy?"

"It's better."

Laura rolled her eyes and walked away, leaving Matt to laugh at her huffy departure.

Heaven Falls Airport

Toria stood by the gates, glad that because of layovers and changeovers, all three of her out of town models were arriving on the same flight and she wouldn't have to come back. She spotted Ronnie and Walker first, the striking pair bickering as they walked down the arrival ramp side by side. "Miss Johns, Mr. Andrews!" Toria called, walking over.

"Miss Edison," Walker said, smiling. IIt's a pleasure to finally meet you."

"The pelasure is all mine, Mr. Andrews," Toria assured him, shaking his hand.

"Can we please get out of here?" Ronnie asked. "There was this irritating girl sitting behind us babling the entire way from Denver!"

"She wasn't that bad," Walker said.

"Oh, there's our final model!" Toria said, waving as she spotted Nicole. "Miss Howards!"

Nicole saw her and ran over. "Miss Edison! It's so great to meet you!" she enthused.

"Oh that is so my luck," Ronnie said. "We have to work with the irritating babbler?"

"I do not babble," Nicole protested. "Okay, maybe a little..."

"Ignore Veronica, she's like the girl of the same name in the..."

"Archie comics!" Nicole finished for him. "I love those!" she added as Toria led the way to the baggage claim.

"So do I," Walker said. "How can you not love Jughead and his antics?"

"Who says Antics?" Ronnie asked, following behind them.

Nicole and Walker ignored her as they continued. "Betty needs to just let Veronica have Archie, he's a loser, stringing two girls along. And if he had half a brain he'd chose Betty. She's so... down to earth, but still beautiful," Nicole said.

"Which proves my theory," Walker said. "Archie's the REAL Jughead!"

Med Center

Sarah walked down the hall, carrying the clipboard with the results for the test. She couldn't believe it. Jamie Bowen, the sweet little boy she had known for almost 9 years, had gotten his girlfriend pregnant. Sarah sighed and shook her head, stopping at the main desk to pull up the names of good obstetricians for Summer to see.

"What's wrong?" Drew asked as he walked up.

"Just a case that's bugging me," Sarah replied.

Before she could stop him, Drew had grabbed the clipboard and looked over it. He saw the pregnancy test as positive, then scanned up and saw the name. "Shit."

"Yeah," Sarah said, taking back the clipboard.

"I can't believe it," Drew said. "How could they br so stupid?"

"They're teenagers, it comes naturally," Sarah replied.

"At least Jamie has the resources to handle it now. He has Grant money to help them out if they need it," Drew pointed out.

"They're 16 and 17 years-old, Drew! Jamie and Summer are still babies themselves, they have no business having a baby!"

Neither noticed Jenny standing around the corner listening to everything in open mouthed surprise. She had seen Summer and Sarah talking earlier, and when she saw Drew and Sarah talking now she had decided to eavesdrop out of curiosity. After realizing they wouldn't say anything else important, Jenny set out to talk to Summer.

It didn't take her long to find the exam room Summer was in, and she slipped, in her face still showing shock.

"Jenny?" Summer asked, confused. "What are you doing in here?"

"You're pregnant?" Jenny blurted out.

"How did you... isn't stuff like that confidential?" Summer asked in a quiet voice.

"I overheard Dr. Reed and Dre... Dr. Sanchez talking. He saw the chart," Jenny said. "They didn't know I was listening."

"Now I do," Sarah said as she entered. "Get back to work, Miss Harris," she added in a commanding tone.

"Yes, ma'am," Jenny said.

"Jenny!" Summer said. "Please, don't tell anyone until I... until I get the chance to tell Jamie."

Jenny nodded, then left.

"So, Jamie doesn't know yet?"

"I wanted to be sure," Summer said. "It's positive?"

Sarah nodded. "Yes, it is."

Summer nodded, then started crying. "I don't know what I'm going to do," she said, her hands over her face as she sobbed.

Sarah got up and put her arms around the girl, trying to offer some comfort. "It'll be okay," she said. "Things will work out somehow."

Grant Poolhouse

Aaron grinned as he began laying out the poolside picnic he had planned to help with the ruse, and to help him have some private time with Diego. "You should have seen my mother's face when I accused her of being homophobic," he told Diego.

"I wish I could have," Diego replied, accepting the soda Aaron passed him. "So, is Jamie still acting pissed?"

"He's moved on to being civil," Aaron said. "but he still makes snide comments if anyone's listening. Then apologizes the first chance he gets."

Diego laughed. "Sounds like him."

"It's actually pretty funny. Mother's trying not to be judgemental, Daniel Jr. is giving me these disgusted looks, Jamie's making snide comments then apologizing, Father just ignores the situation, and Richard and Annie keeping looking between everyone and shaking their heads, but it looks like they're trying not to laugh," Aaron said, sitting down. "You gotta try cook's Lasagna," he said, getting a forkful and holding it out for Diego.

Diego leaned forward to get the food, and closed his eyes as he savored the taste. "Deliscious."

"Better than if I tried to cook it," Aaron said with a laugh. He spotted some food that was stuck to the corner of Diego's mouth and without thinking reached over and wiped it off with his thumb. As their skin touched, they both froze for a moment, unsure of what to do. After a few long seconds they both started to lean in towards eachother, and their lips touched.

In the heat of the moment, neither noticed Maria standing in the doorway, a devastated look on her face.
