Episode Thirty Seven
The Falls Park
"I'm pregnant," Summer repeated, trying desperately not to break down. She couldn't though and started shaking as the tears fell down her face.
Jamie moved closer and pulled her against his chest. "It'll be okay," he whispered, still in shock over the news. "Are you... are you sure?"
Summer nodded shakily, gripping Jamie's t-shirt in her fist. "Dr. Reed did the test. She even said she tripled checked it. I'm pregnant. We're going to have a baby."
Jamie didn't say anything, he just closed his eyes and rubbed Summer's back, willing this to be a dream, that he'd wake up and this wouldn't be happening. Unfortunately he knew it wasn't and one thought prevailed: What if I gave them both something?
Grant Pool House
Diego walked back into the pool house an hour after he left to try and find his sister. He shook his head when he saw Aaron's questioning look, and sank down into a chair, feeling lower than low. "She looked like her heart had been ripped out," he said.
"I think it was," Aaron said. "We were suppose to be just pretending."
"I know."
"I stopped pretending a while ago."
"Me too," Diego said. "Now what?"
"I have no idea," Aaron admitted.
Heavenly Arms Hotel
Ronnie barged through the door between she and Walker's room and sat down in the chair with a huff. "The nerve of that little blonde girl."
Walker nodded, pretending to be sympathetic. "Yeah, getting snippy because you were trying to come on to her boyfriend. How dare she."
Ronnie glared at him. "You could at least pretend to be on my side."
"I am pretending to be on your side, Ronnie," Walker replied, with a grin. "I'm just not pretending very well."
"Walker!"
"Veronica!"
"You're on the blonde's side because you have a thing for the blabbermouth."
Walker rolled his eyes. "I don't have a 'thing' for Nicole."
Ronnie smirked. "You knew her name in an instant though, didn't you?"
"Shut up, Ronnie, and go back to your room."
"Why? You having a secret rendevous with Little Miss Nicole?"
"No, I just want to get rid of you."
"Jackass."
"Bitch."
And with those parting words, Ronnie returned to her room.
The Falls Park
"What am I going to do?" Summer asked quietly, her face still pressed to Jamie's chest.
"We."
"What?" Summer asked, pulling back.
"What are we going to do," Jamie corrected. "This isn't just your baby. It's mine, too."
"What are we going to do then?"
":I have no idea," Jamie said. "What if..."
"What?"
"What if I gave both of you..."
"You didn't," Summer said firmly.
"You don't know that."
"Well I know that if you did there's nothing we can do to change it," Summer insisted. "Just try not to be doom and gloom, Jamie. Think positive."
"Positive? We're 16 and 17, Summer, and we're having a baby! Forgive me, but I don't see the positive!"
"Do you love me?" Summer asked.
"More than anything," Jamie replied, confused.
"And I love you more than anything," Summer said. "That's the positive."
Jamie tried to smile, but gave up. "Love doesn't fix everything."
"I know. But it sure helps things seem better sometimes, doesn't it?"
The Monotya Bodega
Matt pulled his car up in front of the Bodega. "Here you go, home sweet home, " he said quietly, watching Maria wipe her eyes again.
"Thanks," Maria said, sniffing. "I feel like such a baby."
"Well, I stand by my offer to kick both their asses for you. Diego may be one of my best friends, but that doesn't mean I'm ready to let him off the hook."
Maria laughed slightly. "Thanks, but for now let's hold off on the ass kicking," she said. Then she smiled. "I have an idea."
"Oh?"
"Simple revenge idea."
"Oh?" Matt repeated. "Do tell."
"Who says 'do tell'?" Maria asked, mocking him.
"I do. Now, tell me your idea," Matt replied, laughing.
"We date."
"What?"
"Aaron's been jealous of you and me being friends, especially since Jamie and Summer got together. Even if he's all happy with Diego, he'll still be jealous and upset if we hook up."
"You mean, pretend to hook up," Matt said, a slow grin coming across his face.
"Yeah, pretend," Maria said, also smiling. "What do you say?"
"I say I'm in. See how he feels about you being with someone else."
Evanston Police Department
"So basically we have next to nothing?" Malcolm said as he finished reviewing the files again.
"Basically," Rick said. "Yeah, we've got zip."
"The only common thread seems to be that all the victims had been at parties the night they were raped."
"2 young men, 2 young women..."
"3 young men," Malcolm corrected.
"Yeah, your officer's kid," Rick said. "You're sure he has nothing important to add?"
"He was drugged. At least, he thinks he was. He believes his stepbrother slipped something into his drink."
"Are we sure it's not the stepbrother?" Rick joked.
"David Harris may be a little prick, but he's not a rapist. Besides, he knows no one would be able to protect him from my officers if he did and they found out. Especially Julian. He'd rip David to shreds."
Rick chuckled. "It was an idea. A bad one I guess, but still an idea." He was quiet a moment before letting out a snort. "Well, we have another commonality between our case and yours."
"Oh?"
"Hank Powers is an officer on your force now, right?"
"Yeah."
"He was working here when Miss Webber was raped."
Malcolm frowned. "He never mentioned that."
"It must have slipped his mind," Rick said with a shrug. "He didn't work the case, and left not long after it happened."
Outside The EdiSigns Offices
Jamie and Summer slowly made their way back to where Jamie's truck was parked. Jamie whinced when he spotted a very angry Julian leaning against the front of it. "Sorry," he muttered.
"Sorry?" Julian said. "Jamie, I'm following you for your safety, not because I find it fun. That means you don't take off."
"I forgot, okay?" Jamie said tensely. He turned away from Julian and cradled Summer's face in his hands "You'll be okay?"
Summer nodded. "Yeah. Just give me a call tonight?"
"Sure thing," Jamie agreed. "Love you."
"Love you more."
"Impossible."
Summer smiled at their usually expression, then headed for her car.
"That's just sickeningly sweet," Julian said, making a face.
"I've seen you and Aunt Sarah looking even more sickening," Jamie said. "3 words: New Years 99."
"Giving me a ahrd time isn't going to get you out of trouble," Julian said. "There's a reason..."
"I know," Jamie cut him off. "Summer and I needed to talk about something, and I completely spaced."
"Is everything okay?" Julian asked.
"Not entirely," Jamie replied before unlocking his truck and climbing inside.
"Are you going home?"
"Yeah."
"Stay there for the night, all right?" Julian instructed. "You're safe inside the place. I need to check in at the station, and Hank will be out there to keep watch starting at around 6."
"Why do I need a guard at night?" Jamie asked. "I'm not gonna go anywhere."
"So you're not going to go to anymore parties at the Grant Lodge until this is over? You're not going to the Junior/Senior welcome back dance?"
"That isn't for a couple weeks!" Jamie argued.
"And how quickly have the past 2 months passed?"
Jamie sighed. "Fine. I'll put up with it. For now."
Harris House
David and Laura stood in the kitchen arguing. "It's a party, Laura, it'll be fun!"
"Oh yeah, last year's was so much fun!" Laura replied, rolling her eyes. "My cousin didn't really talk to me for weeks!"
"So? It's not my fault Jamie's an ass!"
"You shouldn't have put the K in his soda!"
"How was I suppose to know he'd get sick?" David asked. "And who cares, anyway? He's not going with us this year, it's just us."
"Just you," Laura corrected. "I'm not going either."
"Oh come on!"
"My mom found the X in my purse. I was able to put her off by saying I had found it in the alley and didn't want some kid to think it was candy. But if I even try to go to the party they mgiht decide the drugs were mine."
"Fine, go and be the good girl."
Laura let out a disgusted sound and walked out, slamming the door behind her.
David rolled his eyes. "Stupid whiny little..."
"Oh, that's a way to keep a girl," Jenny said as she walked into the kitchen. "Insult her."
"Shut up, Jenny."
"Oh, what a biting come back," Jenny replied. "See, this is why guys Jamie can keep a girl, while guys like you lose them. He'd never call Summer names, and he wpouldn't be so rude to someone trying to give him advice!" she added, knowing that the comparison to jamie would rile David up.
"Yeah, well, at least I'd have the sense to know when I was drugged," David said, then froze, not having meant to say that.
"What?" Jenny asked.
David sighed and turned to face his sister again, realizing he couldn't get out of it now. "You heard me. I slipped him some K last year and he didn't even have the sense to realize somehting was wrong with his soda."
Jenny stared at her brother in horror and disgust. "I can't believe you would do something like that!" She said. "You... you disgust me."
