An 1890 drawing of 'The Grant Home For Children', now known as 'River House'

River House has a history dating back to the founding of Heaven Falls.

In 1859, the house was built when the wealthy Grant family arrived in town. For it's time the home was considered to be a mansion, though now the Grants have moved on to far more grand homes. In 1880, the majority of the grant hosuehold moved to a larger home, and the house was given to eldest son Josiah and his new wife, Olivia, as a wedding gift. Olivia soon found that she was unable to bear children, and convinced Josiah to take in orphaned children. For 4 years they did this, but in 1884, Olivia was brutally murdered by an indian (From an unidentified tribe). Josiah was heartbroken, and sent most of the children who were living at the house to an orphanage in Denver.

Josiah never married again, but eventually gave the house to his close friends, James Bowen & Abbigail Lawson-Bowen as a wedding present, it's during the time of their ownership that the house became known as 'River House'. However, the deed to the house was lost soon after Josiah's death, and the Grant family was able to convince a judge that the house was still rightfully theirs. James and Abbigail had to leave the house along with their family, and the event led to the fued between the Bowens and the Grants which still continues to this day.

Ownership of the house has remained in the hands of the Grant Family over the years, but in 1970 the house was left empty and abandoned by it's owner. It currently needs a great deal of restoration done before it could be deemed livable again.
