Leonard and wife Susan Bay-Nimoy were recently honored for their commitment to Los Angeles' Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA).
The Nimoys were the honorees at the MOCA's gala opening of a retrospective exhibition of British artist Lucian Freud's work. According to the Los Angeles Times, the memorable event had fan-dancing women in python costumes and an impressive multimedia display. Painter David Hockney, who served as one of Freud's portrait subjects, played host. The Nimoys' arrival was greeted by "a small storm of flashes," according to the Times, as the pair was honored for their commitment to the museum and for contributing $1 million to a new fund for emerging artists. Good Job Nimoy's!
Star Trek The Original Series, Created by Gene Roddenberry, was the first of its kind in Science Fiction! Back in the 60's the only sci-fi on t.v. was really Lost In Space©. So that tells you that it was about time for a good imaginative show like Star Trek. And imaginative it was, from Desilu Studio, founded by the stars of "I Love Lucy", Star Trek was a "wagon train to the stars". Though it only lasted 3 stellar series, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry knew this wasn't going be the end for Star Trek! For Star Trek's Original Series, the technology that lights up the screen to deliver stunning images of today's Enterprise (NX-01) wasn't available, and had to be done by hand. The main focus these days at Unobtainium is the U.S.S. Enterprise model. An exact recreation of the model seen in the Enterprise shots from the Original Series (pictured with William Shatner), the model is available in three different versions; a Standard version, fully assembled and painted, a Deluxe version with working navigation, window and engine lights, and an "Ultimate" version with all of the above plus sound effects and an autographed base unit, signed by a member of the Original Series cast.!!!

The Cage and Where No Man Has Gone Before
The Original Pilot of Star Trek was not as succsessful as Roddenberry had hoped but must have done something for NBC executives to ask Roddenberry to make a second pilot but less 'cerebral'. So "Where No Man Has Gone Before" with a whole new cast incuding William Shatner, James Doohan, George Takei and Leanord Nimoy. Roddenberry has to fight with NBC Execs to keep Nimoy on as the Vulcan Science Officer because NBC wanted a whole new cast! Good thing that they kept him because Vulcans later became the fans favorite alien race! Also some guest charachters were put on as temporary crew such as Dr. Piper, Dr.Dehner and of course Gary Mitchell. Dr.McCoy Later became cheif medical officer of the Enterprise starting with "The Corbomaite Maneuver".
