"Firefly's Song"

I'm looking for a mate;

I fly around at night

And when I flash my tail,

It makes a yellow light.

"Boy's Song"

I saw fireflies last night;

Their glow lit up the sky.

I put them in a jar;

But they began to die.

So I opened the jar.

The fireflies flew away.

I smiled to think that they

would live another day.

A firefly's inside of me,

His light is growing dim.

Unless my lid is lifted,

His chance of living is slim.

  Fireflies...

    shimmering in the moonlight,

     dancing as they glow...

      I watch these fire bugs fly away

        and

       It's always an amazing sight.

       Do not try to catch them.

       Like us, they need to be free.

Three Couplets about Fireflies

Fireflies make little lights

That shine in the summer nights.

Fireflies glow in the dark;

You can catch them at the park.

The firefly's glow is so bright;

You can't see his body, only his light.

-by Ms. Grimes' kindergarten class

Outside I see a light;

I wonder what it is.

Is it a firefly's glow?

or light from distant stars?

I go outside to see

what's making all the light.

The sky is filled with fireflies.

What a wonderful sight!
