Charles R. Mosser, 65, of Ravenswood passed
away peacefully and surrounded by loving family
on February 12, 2009, at Holzer Clinic in
Gallipolis, Ohio, as a result of lymphoma.
He was born May 14, 1943, in Houston, Texas,
the son of Francis Panek and the late Glendie
Edgel Mosser.
Charlie was a graduate and longtime sports fan
of Marshall University, where he received a
Bachelor of Science in Sociology and belonged
to the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and
R.O.T.C. National Society of Scabbard and Blade.
In 1966, he entered the Army as a second
lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne and served in
the Vietnam War as a captain in the Light Horse
Assault Battery, 87 Battalion, 6th Artillery
during the Tet Offensive in 1967 and 1968,
when he was awarded two Bronze Stars and
the Army Commendation Medal.
Charlie worked the majority of his life at the
Kaiser built aluminum factory in Ravenswood,
where he had many roles, but most associated
himself with the hotline. As an employee of
the plant, he also served on the board of the
RAMS club for many years. After retirement,
he served as a president of the Kaiser retirees,
as well as continuing as an honorary retiree
board member of the RAMS.
The community was blessed to have Charlie, as he
touched many lives through a number of active
roles. He was a member o and church elder at the
Presbyterian Church, member of Moose Lodge 731,
member of VFW Post 6669, past president of
Ravenswood Little League, reader in the Read
Aloud program at Henry J. Kaiser Elementary,
a mentor at Ravenswood Middle School, winner
of the Mz Ravenswood Contest 1984, Cub Master
Pack 43 and Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of
America Troop 43. He was most proud of the
five scouts whom he helped to receive their
Eagle Scout award.
His hobbies included cooking, playing cards
and spending time with his family.
Charles R. Mosser was a patriot to his country,
a leader to his community, a loyal friend and
a loving provider to his wife and family. His
charisma was unique and he will be missed by many.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra,
whom he married August 21, 1965, in Huntington;
his children, Katherine Howard and Steven Mosser
and wife Melanie of Ravenswood; his grandchildren,
Nathaniel Riggs, Veronica Howard Logan Mosser and
Maci Mosser of Ravenswood; his brother, Rob Mosser
and wife Pam of Cincinnati, Ohio; and mother,
Francis Panek of San Diego, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glendie
Edgel Mosser; and infant daughter, Sara Beth Mosser.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday,
February 16, 2009, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens
in Barboursville, WV.
Friends may visit the family from 2 to 8 p.m. today,
February 15, 2009, at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood.
