This is a story about Corinne's cat. His name is Pumpkin and he has had a tough life...until now. See, Corinne met Mike, they fell in love and after about a year, found this great house to live in. Pumpkin did not like new places and he hid under the covers of their bed for days, but after a while, he thought he was perhaps missing out on life and came out to see Mike and Corinne. They were worried that he would scratch up the furniture...he was notorious for this in the past, so Mike re-taught him how to play. See he lost his "kitten" properties over the years, but they were still there, just hidden under all of that fur. Mike started playing with him around his unused scratching post and within a week, he started scratching it on his own. He now uses his scratching post several times a day...especially in the morning.
Pumpkin has a few favorite activites and he is a creature of habit. When he wakes up every morning, he has to have a drink...of water that is. He has trained Mike and Corinne to turn on the bathtub faucet so he can get fresh water each day. He then walks out for the morning scratch and wants to play. Mike is the sucker who plays with him most of the time, so he tosses Pumpkin around a bit to get him riled up, and uses Pumpkin's favorite toy, the little red plastic stick. Mike and Corinne are still a little confused why he likes that as his favorite toy, but they are not complaining...it is cheap and will never break!!
Mike and Corinne have to work, but Pumkin is a lazy bum during the day. His favorite activity is sleeping. He will sleep just about anywhere, but he has his favorite places: their bed, the closet, and out in the yard (when it is cold, he finds the sunny spots and when it is hot, he has favorite shady spots). When they return home from work, Pumpkin is there waiting for them...looking like he slept all day, because he did!!
Pumpkin is not a very agile cat. He tries to catch birds, but he is too slow...he cannot jump over fences like other cats, so he just hangs out in his yard. He has found a couple of holes in the fences so he can go into the neighbors' yards, but he rarely does so because he is a real "scaredy cat". He seemed kind of lonely, but neighbor cat just moved in and Pumpkin has made a new friend. His new friend is named Chimunda, also a Tabby. Since Pumpkin just relearned how to play, he tries to play with Chimunda, but Chimunda does not always understand that it is just play and he runs away. If only Chimunda knew that Pumpkin could not hurt a fly, he may have a bit more fun.
