Organizing at HHT
This is a blog dedicated to the union organizing activity at HHT.
What happened to the kinder, gentler HHT?
The rant is back on...

Today's events really showed how underhanded this company can be during this "transition time". Once again, the double standard has reared it's ugly head. One of my close friends was singled out for what amounts to some bullshit charge. This advisor, who does a great job with her duties at work, was written up for allegedly being rude to a client. Does the charge have any merit? We all know how some participants can be complete morons. Also, we can agree that one shouldn't put up with it. I back her 100% with her choice to disengage the call. Here's where the horseshit comes into play. One of the temps is blatently rude to potential clients by saying things like, "I already told you my name". Why isn't he given a "Jesus talk" and then shown the door? So, is the problem that she was supposedly rude or that she talks with me at work? This brings me to the main point of the post.

Here's the scoop. Her lead worker, who is an agent of evil, told her not to talk to me so much. In case your don't know who I am referring to, this person is also part of the duo known as "dumb and dumber". Anyways, let's think about this for a second. Why me? Why not someone else? The way I see it, management isn't going to go after me. Instead they will stoop to the level of, oh I don't know, a juicy, steamy turd and go after people that I associate with at work. Yeah, that's pretty low. Wait, this must be an isolated incident. This doesn't happen at HHT. We're one big happy family. The fact remains, other advisors have been told this in recent weeks. Some are even told not to stretch at their desk and instead must do this in the bathroom. True story. Ok, now your thinking this other person is taking the other off task or vice versa. Let me break it down for you. We both do an excellent job and make money for this company, which really is the main goal of the health advising division. Let's face it. We're not just paying the temps to strike up conversations or telling advisors to get those enrollment calls done just for the fun of it. The temps are paid peanuts to turn a fat profit. We're paid to provide a service so that our clients don't pull the contracts. In turn, this gets our stakeholders the extra Porsche and home in Aspen.

When supervisors and lead workers start telling people they cannot talk to others, how is that building trust and respect? I thought these were the cornerstones of the Healthways philosophy. Sorry, somebody get me another card with the values on it because I used it to stir the "Healthways punch" that I made in the urinal after Tuesday's meeting. Let's get back to the matter at hand. How is this helping the morale problem? Shouldn't we be working on forging relationships with our coworkers and not tearing down bonds? Bottom line. It's about control. It's a game that management likes to play. This is why management doesn't want a union. It takes away from their power and gives some of it back to the employee. These little power struggles wouldn't happen with a grievience procedure. The next time you get pulled into a meeting (probably for talking with me), think about what a union contract would give to you. It protects you from management writing you up for nonsense.

In case you haven't figured it out. They made this chess game a little personal.
