Organizing at HHT
This is a blog dedicated to the union organizing activity at HHT.
You can call the search party off...
...I have returned (at least for a bit).

To update everyone, I was terminated by Michele Falbo effective 6/22/07. Come on, we all know this was going to happen. In return for the cordial treatment by Healthways, Inc., there are some nice parting gifts to be revealed in the new future for my former overlords.

It's about time this company pays for a long history of violating employee's rights. Harris HealthTrends, Inc. has continued to discriminate based on age, gender, race, and physical handicaps. Also, this company continues to violate federal laws in regards to the right to organize and has disregarded the Family Medical Leave Act. My hope for my former coworkers is not to experience the kinder, gentler HHT first hand.

On a more important note, my son has undergone 3 surgeries to correct his congenital heart defect. The first occured on 7/12/07 and closed his atrial and ventricular septal defect. The ability to reconstruct the mitral valve was unsuccessful at that time. A second surgery on 7/19 to suture the valve in place was unsuccessful. He waited for 4 days on ECMO, which is a heart-lung bypass, to clear the fluid in his lungs and give his little heart a rest. He underwent two heart catherizations to keep the effects of congestive heart failure at a minimum. His last surgery occured on 7/24 and resulted in an artificial mitral valve, which was successful and he is off ECMO. The downside is an artificial heart will require a lifetime of coumadin and more surgeries as he grows to replace the valve. Also, because the smallest artificial valve was really too big for his little heart, the valve caused him to go into "heart block" because it was placed too close to the conduction system. If he doesn't get his heart rhythm back in a week, he will require a pacemaker.

As of now, he is still on the ventilator, but is breathing "above it". I might get to hold him once they extubate on either Sun. or Mon. All and all, it's been tough for him the past two weeks, but he's improving everyday.

Good luck to everyone!

Hey Brother, It's been awhile since I have left a message with you. Actually, it's been a long time since I have even logged on to 360. I read your last blog and I wanted to respond to your termination and your son's difficult situation. First, it's chicken #?!@ you got fired. Especially while you are going through tough times. I guess it is not a surprise considering who you were working for. Also, I'm sorry your son is going through such a difficult time right now. I know it is now easy for you and your family, either. I don't know what else to say, but, that I hope he successfully receives the treatment he needs to continue a normal boyhood life. No one wants to have their children go through what your son has gone through, nor does anyone want to hear that someone elses child is going through tough times. I have an 8 month old and another on the way, and I worry a lot about "what" could happen to them while they are so young. I hope things turn around for you and your family soon. I will keep you in my thoughts. Take care brother!

Thanks for the support! When I look on this experience with HHT, I think did I really need to go into $60K of debt to get pushed around like a food service worker? Of course not, but live and learn. They pushed...we pushed back. In the end, what goes around comes around. To all the ass-kissers that turned in their co-workers or jumped ship when coerced with money and power, you'll get what you deserve. The funny thing is that I was the most vocal and HHT decided to cut off the head. In reality, this struggle was started by more than just me. I hope someone will step up to the plate and not let the flame die. A wise man told me once: "If you don't stand for something, then you'll fall for anything". It got me thinking. Then I read it on a button on the AFL-CIO website and I'm not as impressed as I was then (just busting your chops, Chris).

All things happen for a reason. I think I was "prepped" years ago for the events of the last 4 months. I feel things are set in motion long before we see them. HHT was part of it and I will fight them zealously until they admit they broke the law. I'm gunning for you Falbo and Big John...oh Big John...you better wipe that smirk off your face. Clown. Rant off.
