Some good news for once...
I was able to hold my son for the first time in 18 days. The vent was removed yesterday, but only because he has a bacterial infection: Pseudomonas aeruginosa. For us infectious disease epidemiologists, we know this is a nosocomial a.k.a. hospital-acquired infection specifically from the ventilator. He sounds pretty hoarse and has a nasty cough, but he is able to smile. Also, this morning he got his "rhytmn" back and it looks that the pacemaker is so far out of the picture. Lastly, he was moved to "moderate care" this evening, which means he'll soon be on the peds floor and then home. Maybe by the end of the week!
In speaking with the surgeon, she was happy to see he was recovering so well. She shared that he was a miracle and was sure he wouldn't make it just a week ago. Considering the unit lost a 2-year old today and there have been two other infants that passed away in the last two weeks. Even with this being the best hospital in the nation for "congenital heart kids", the best medicine is not enough sometimes. I have counted ourselves very lucky.
Finally, back to the mission of this blog. This week, Harris HealthTrends, Inc. was served with papers from the NLRB for alleged unfair labor practices citing my wrongful termination. When I speak with the investigator, I may just amend my charge to cover some other incidents from the past 6 months. The more, the merrier. It's about time HHT pays from their crimes.
I said more was to follow. I've just scratched the surface of it...
