As we all know, Vegeta is the prince of all Sayians, a first class warrior and he makes sure we never forget this. Vegeta is known for his strength, pride, arrogance and extremely short fuse. Vegeta's past was definitely not a nice one, as a small boy Vegeta was handed over to an evil tyrant called Freeza. The king, also named Vegeta tried to take back his son which resulted in his death (the queen still remains a great mystery) After this Freeza realizes these Sayians could be a serious threat if the legendary Super Sayian would arise so he decides to destroy the planet only leaving 3 Sayians alive; Vegeta, Nappa and Radditz (Goku's brother)
During his childhood Vegeta continued to work for Freeza, living a harsh and cruel life. One day while on a purging mission, they hear from Raditz who had been sent to Earth and they learn about the Dragonballs. Vegeta wants to wish for immortality so they're off to get the 7 balls. In a long battle between the two Sayians and the Z-gang Nappa gets killed (Vegeta killed him for being too weak) but Goku decides to let Vegeta live.
A little later we see Vegeta again in the Namek Saga and from there on we see him changing and eventually he turns from enemy, to ally and in the end maybe even friend of Goku and the rest. A big part of his life, Vegeta dedicates to beating Goku and reclaiming his place as strongest being in the universe yet he never actually achieved his goal.
