This is a letter written by Ann Hyatt Hume on April 12, 1927. The letter was written to S.H. Jacoby who was living in New York City at the time.
Frederick Hyatt, the grandfather of Ann, was a prominent Missourian. His home is still standing, and you can see pictures of it at the following website: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mo/county/stlouis/hyatt_house/
A transcription of the text from Ann's letter is provided below, as well as a scanned copy of the actual letter. If there are errors in the transcription please let me know. Mrs. S.H. Jacoby
419 W. 119th St. New York City;
My dear Mrs. Jacoby:
Your interesting letter of Dec 7th was not only enjoyed but very much appreciated, and, like you I feel we are of the same family lines and I am still working on our branch of it. That is back of Joseph Hieatt & his wife, Margaret Reid of Richmond, Ky. One of his descendants who is equally interested in family history and lives in Washington D.C. is now in North Carolina, at Raleigh & Salisbury, where she thinks are located the records we would like to have. As you sent me, thinking is might help her some in her work, and will try to keep in touch with all that is of mutual interest to each of the different branches. You wrote you would send me copy of your family tree when you returned to Ky, and I am looking forward to the pleasure of receiving it and I hope to be able to send you more data that we are compiling as we work along. We will soon know if our efforts end in tracing our lines back to earliest settlers in America. My grandfather Frederick Hyatt (Name on that line spelled Hieatt) was born in a farm on Gilbert's Creek which was afterward Garrard Co. (that was in 1791) later they moved to Richmond, but it looks now as tho they might have been previously in North Carolina. I will let you know what we find. In case you leave your present address, I would need your home address. I noticed in our St. Louis paper your brother Clarence will address the St. Louis Exchange this month. St. Louis was our home until last few years and we still go there often, as Mr. Hume still holds his real estate interests in the County, but our children are settled here and we like it very much, and my interests are invested here.
I will be glad to hear from you when you can fine time to write and like most school kids I am looking forward to the time "when school closes" and you have access to your records. With best regards I am
Truly yours
Ann Hyatt Hume
