While most of the Hieatt's in the United States can trace their roots to Kentucky and then back to Virginia, ultimately all of the Hieatt's in the world can trace their roots back to the United Kingdom. Some family legends in the United States claim the Hieatt's were actually French Huguenots that migrated to the United Kingdom to escape persecution. By all accounts, the Hieatt name as we see it today had it's origins in the United Kingdom.

As you can see in this image, the Hieatt's appear to be centered around the area of Oxfordshire. Even today there are still family members living there who retain our peculiar spelling.
