My Dear Auntie:
Will write you all a few times tonight. How are you all and what are you all doing now? Why haven't you written to me? I got a letter from mama and Chester tonight and they said it was awful dry there. We have had several nice little rains since I got here. I am feeling fine and having a good time. We don't have very much to do here now. Just resting up before we go across. I have been in New York City twice already. Just got back an hour or so ago. It sure is some city. There is lots to see there that I never saw before. I took the sight seeing car the first time I was there and rode over the city and saw quite a few of the interesting things. Amazing there's the highest building in the world. I rode in the subways. They sure do fly, and the elevated road do to. I would not take anything for my trip. Sure will have lots to tell you all when I get back. How are all the folks at home? Chester and Ethel and Fosters family? Hope they are all well. Mamma sent me an application for a furlough, but there is no chance of getting one, as I expect we are leaving next week. And if I could get it I would not want if my Co. is going to leave as I like all of my officers and I want to go with them. I had my picture made the other day in New York. Guess they will be done in a day or two. Will send you all one as soon as I get them. Hope they will be good. I had them made with my hat on and also off. I liked the one with the hat on better than the one with it off. I say my hat. I don't guess you will call it a hat, and that is the kind we wear across the sea. The call them the little "go to hell" hat. Some name don't you think. I don't think I will get to write as often after I get across as I do now. You all write to me as often as you can tho. I got a card from Dr. Juett this afternoon and he says he has passed the over-seas examination and will go over before long. Hope to get to see him over there. I will send you the other proof of the picture and if you like it better than the one I send you, you can send it back and have it finished for $3.00 a dozen. The address is Victor Studio of Photography 261 West 42nd St. N.Y. Wait until you get the finished picture first tho. My hair is so short without the hat. That is the way we have to have it cut tho. Well I will close for this time.
Love to all.
Carl
