Hiei watched the now sleeping form of his Kurama. His. He smiled. Kurama looked so pretty in sleep, even in his human form. Hiei never quite understood why he wanted to stay in this world instead of going to the Makai. Not that it mattered anyway. Yukina was here too, so Hiei was bound to be here anyway. Kurama had been so tired tonight. But that wasn't so terribly odd. They had faced a youkai today and Kurama had been terribly worn out. Well, it's time for me to be off, Hiei thought with a smile and slid out of the bed.

Shiori wondered what was keeping her usually prompt son from this morning's breakfast. She headed towards his room and knocked. "Shuuichi? Come on. Time to get up." She head a very un-shuuichi moan from the other side of the door and opened it slowly.

Her scream could probably be heard all the way to the Rekai.

Kurama felt awful. And something was wrong. He rolled off the bed, moving his tail off of his - wait a minute. His tail? At that same second Shiori screamed. Kurama himself was too shocked to scream. Why was he in his Youko form? .......And he couldn't change back either. Shiori had recovered enough to grab a vase, ready to throw it at him if he so much as moved. "Where is my son? What did you do with him?"

"'Kaasan. I- I am Shuuichi, but...I don't know what's wrong." Kurama fell to his knees , hoping this gesture of helplessness would make her at least put the vase down. It had some very pretty roses in it and he had only put them there yesterday. Kurama sneezed. Oh ya, something was wrong all right. Shiori put the vase down and stared at him for a few seconds. His pleading eyes held something in them that reminded her of her Shuuichi, even if he was some sort of creature.

"Who are you?" She repeated.

"Youko Kurama. Minamino Shuuichi. Please 'Kaasan believe me, I don't know why I am like this." Kurama sniffled. Stuffy nose too, he noted sadly. "I will find out though, I will be back as your Shuuichi....hopefully." Without any further explination he left before Shiori could say anything else and headed to see Yukina.

"So I figured if anyone knew what was wrong with me it would be you." Kurama finished.

Yukina smiled. "Thank you. Well it seems you have a version of the Makai Flu, but how you got it I wouldn't know."

Kurama winced when he thought about who he could have gotten the flu from. The only person who had been in the Makai recently. Hiei.

"Is there any way I can change back to Shuuichi? 'Kaasan was about to kill me with a vase this morning."

"I'm afraid not, not until it's over at least." Yukina handed him a cup of tea. "Here this will make you feel a little better."

"So what do I do?"

"So this man is my Shuuichi, only he doesn't look like him?" Shiori asked Yukina. Yukina seemed a nice enough girl. She was cheerful and kind, and had even so much as offered to help her with the tea.

"Yes. He has a strange version of the Flu. He'll feel fine tomorrow but he may not be back to normal for up to a week." Yukina guessed it was a week. She had had this particular flu herself when she was little. it had only lasted for a day but when someone she had talked to three days later had came down with it she figured she still had the flu.

"'Kaasan." Kurama smiled. You all know there is nothing like your mother taking care of you when you are not feeling well. Perhaps half human youkos are no exception, ne?

Shiori put a hand to her sons forehead. A fever. "Come one. let's get you to bed."

Shiori had started getting used to the idea of this strange man being her son. He acted just like him. In fact she was cooking breakfast the next morning when she recieved another surprise. There was a kid standing on the other side of the room.

No, not a kid. A short man. "Are you a friend of my son's?"

"Hn." He showed no emotion. Shiori stepped toward him. He didn't look so dangerous after all she supposed his arms were hurt seeing as how they were bandaged up like that.

"Are you hurt?"

"No. You are Kurama's mother. The human he cares for so much." He walked around her and stood in front of her his face still impassive.

"Kurama? Do you mean Shuuichi? I only have one son."

"Hn. Shuuichi." Hiei couldn't believe this was the human Kurama cared so much for. She was weak. Like most humans. She shoved a tray into his hands. "Then you can help me take this up to him."

What could he do. Kurama would be angry if he hurt this human. Hed probably never speak to Hiei again. Hiei held the tray as shiori placed food, and tea on it.

Kurama felt better. His head was pounding, but he felt better. He was still in Youko form also. "Shuuichi?" Shiori called from the door.

"Yes 'Kaasan?"

"We brought you breakfast. What are you doing out of bed?" Shoiori walked in behind her carrying a tray was...Hiei?! Kurama falt he'd better lie down. Hiei walked up to his bedside and looked around and placed the tray on his lap.

"Why are you here?" Kurama whispered.

Hiei gave him a look.

Shiori smiled "Well I'll leave you guys to talk. I'll be downstairs." She walked out leavng the door open. Hiei went and closed it.

"So, why are you here Hiei?" Kurama leaned forward and kissed him.

"Yukina mentioned you were sick."

"Yeah YOU gave me the flu. Guess I'll have to give it back to you." Kurama put the tray down beside the bed and pounced in Hiei.

"Stupid Fox." Kurama didn't listen

"What about your mother. She's only downstairs."

Kurama stopped dead. "Oh yeah 'Kaasan...So you'll be back tonight right?" Kurama kissed along his jawline.

"Hn." Hiei left. Out the door because that was the way he came in for once.

Kurama dozed all day he never was one to miss the chance to sleep in. You had to be a fool not to take advantage of that. He went downstairs for dinner though. Shiori and Hiei were talking Hiei was still here! He appeared to be explaining everything kurama had kept a secret from her. His past, his friends, His lover, everything. Shiori smiled and motioned for Kurama to come and sit with them.

"Shuuichi, Hiei says you are a detective for the spirit world."

"That's true."

"He told me how you were born here too."

Kurama winced. "'Kaasan I didn't know how to tell you those things. I still don't know how Hiei managed to tell you." He looked to Hiei who stared back at him.

"Shuuichi, dear did you think I'd be angry? You are helping people yes?" Kurama nodded. "I always hoped to raise a good son. You've made me proud."

"I- I have? What else did he tell you?" Kurama thought this was a little too good to be true.

"That you and him love each other very much and take care of each other." Ah so he hadn't said anything about their many shared nights.

"Hiei, you talked that much?" Kurama teased.

Hiei frowned. "Hn."

The rest of the week went by without a problem. Hiei stopped by for dinner three times. even he was smart enough to appreciate a good meal. He may not like Humans but everyone likes food. At might Kurama and Hiei did their...*ahem* usual activities. And six days later kurama fainted. Shiori put a pillow under his head and watched as an unconcious Youko turned back into her son. Kurama had woken up shortly after.

***

"So is that the last time you visit the Makai during flu season?" Kurama giggled to Hiei andbrushed his fingers against the back of Hiei's neck.

"Crazy Youko's need to get sick sometimes." Hiei sand pushing his hand away. Kurama answered with a light kiss.
