With the creation of the transatlantic railroad, the industrial revolution found its way to the American West. Stockcars riding on iron rails soon superseded the long cattle drives of the cowboy. One of the railroads that created the transatlantic route, the Union Pacific, fast became one of the country's largest shippers of livestock and other goods. Even into the mid-20th century, livestock runs were a common consist handled by fast freight locomotives like the Veranda turbine. Although this authentic detailed miniature die-cast-metal model to date has not been reproduced by Lionel^â it features prototypical colors, revolving wheels and axles, articulated leading and trailing trucks, sliding doors, and can be used as a Christmas ornament or fits perfectly on N-gauge track.
