| ADVERTISING ICONS |
| Cows have been powerful advertising icons in the twentieth century. |
| Elsie the Cow is one of America's best known advertising icons. Created in the 1920's, she was first featured in medical publications and on posters in doctors offices. Next came ads in newspapers, and then in 1938, Borden used her in radio commericals. She eventually became their spokescow and was further popularized at the New York World's Fair in 1939. |

La Vache qui rit, one of France's best known advertising icons to emblazon packages of cheese, was also introduced in the 1920's. In English-speaking countries, she's "The Laughing Cow." Either way, she has a lot of personality, n'est-ce pas? |
