Volunteer  Assignments

Parents are responsible for working 4 primary jobs for each swimmer.   If you cannot work one of your shifts, it is your responsibility to find a replacement.

If you have switched jobs with another parent, please put the name of that person on the assignment sheet on the bulletin board during the week before the meet.

Setup Assignments  start at 6:30 AM for Saturday meets.  This job requires removing lounge chairs from the deck, setting up lane lines, timer chairs, canopies, and blocks.

Timers sit behind the blocks and time swimmers during a two-hour period (approximate).  There are three timers per lane, with at least one timer from each team per lane.  For the first shift, timers must be ready at 8:15 AM for instructions near the diving blocks.  For the second shift timers must listen for the shift change and report to blocks for instructions.

Recorders sit behind the timers and record the times (3) for each swimmer in that lane.  Recorders need to make sure that the cards are in order by event and heat.

Timers and recorders should verify the name of the 10 & under swimmers with the name on the card.

Lane Assignments

Home Meets

Timers             2 Highlands’ timers in lanes 1, 3, 5

1 Highlands’ timer in lane 2 and 4

Recorders          Highlands’ recorders in lanes 2 and 4

Away Meets

Timers             2 Highlands’ timers in even lanes (depends on # of lanes)

1 Highlands’ timer in odd numbered lanes

Recorders          Highlands’ recorders in odd numbered lanes

Runners retrieve the timecards from the recorders after each heat or event, and deliver them to the desk.

Desk:  There are four people at the desk, two from Highlands and two from the other team.  There are 3 different jobs:

-         One person puts the swimmers’ timecards for an event in order by time

-         One person reads the names, times and places to the scorekeepers

-         Two people (one from each team) are the scorekeepers and record the times and places on the score sheet, tabulating the score.

Cards

For 10 & under swimmers, distribute cards to recorders before each stroke.  Cards should be in correct event, heat order.  For older swimmers, place cards on card board.

Snack Bar

Volunteers should go to the Snack Bar for instructions.  Snack Bar first shift starts at 7:00 A.M.   See Snack Bar Coordinator for instructions.

Clean up

Pool area must be returned to previous state.
