Glen Head Tales

(or 2001 a Strat-O-Matic Odyssey)

by Phil Trygar

Chapter Four, The Queen’s Tale or (Putting up with the obsession, The Strat-Wives Club)

This chapter was originally intended to be my musings and memories of women (girls in my younger days) that I have known over the years, who have either played Strat, tried to play Strat, pretended they played Strat, pretended they liked Strat, put up with the guys who play Strat, hated guys who spent their time playing Strat, etc., etc., etc. It was intended to illustrate the importance of being with someone who, while they might not really care all that much about it, can at least make you feel like they care whether or not you trade Mickey Klutts for Joe Schlebotnik and a 5th round pick in 2009.

It was also going to be a testimonial to someone that I have found who fits that criteria. My wife Ann is a woman who not only listens to me go on and on and on about who I should pick next in the draft, or puts up with being kept up late at night while I finish my league playoffs on line until 2:00 A.M., but she also has played the game in the past. This chapter will be all of that and more. It will also include her own sub-chapter updates on a regular basis, so we can read what she really thinks about it all, and some input and stories from other Strat-Wives that have wanted and offered to do it. Hopefully it will shed some light on what women really think about guys who play Strat. Hopefully too, it will also give us guys who play Strat a greater appreciation of those who allow us to play, and who cheerfully (for the most part) put up with it.
