Flamethrowers and a Queen's Wing... What?

In the books by Anne McCaffrey, specifically DragonFlight, flamethrowers are a thing of the past which are revived only by going back in time. The same goes for the theory of a Queen's Wing. So why do we, if we play in an alternate Pass, have such items?

Simply put, it is because records of such items were located in High Reaches Weyr. The hides were not in the best of condition, but they were there... and once the senior gold and her rider learned of a Queen's Wing, nothing would stop them from reforming one. All dragons in a Weyr bows to the wishes of their Queen, regardless of what the riders think.

Queens are taught the same lessons as the other Weyrlings, especially after a young gold and her rider demanded to be taught. Flying and going /between/ are not forbidden to the golds at High Reaches, although they are fiercely protected at all times. It was only after much debate that the Queen's Wing were permitted to fly Threadfall, and perhaps permission was given only because every dragon was needed to help.

Flamethrowers were a little bit harder, for while there were references and even a detailed and illustrated pamphlet on how to use one, there were no flamethrowers to be found. Once Thread had started up, dragonriders took the information to the Smith CraftHall at Telgar Hold to try and make some of the items. Flamethrowers were produced, although at a painstakingly slow pace.

Since there is only one Weyr, flamethrowers were distributed first to the eastern Holds, who suffered by having no dragonriders to protect them. Only after the surviving Holds were protected did the SmithHall start selling the flamethrowers to the western areas.
