ARMS Regional Slalom #3
Moncton, New Brunswick
June 3rd, 2001
Well, in the end maybe it would have been better to stay home.  With questionable weather, we set out for Moncton early sunday morning.  The rain stayed away and we actually saw a few breaks and sun on the way.  But that all changed.  Just after we arrived at the Moncton Coliseum parking lot, it started to drizzle.  Now I try not to take the auto-x's too serious, and usually just show up for hassle free fun, but I made all the wrong choices.  Bad wipers and slicks being the two biggest mistakes.  And rain!!  Did it ever.  All day in fact.   So I spent my first three runs trying to find the course, and struggling for grip.  The times got somewhat respectable around the end, but we still got spanked good by about 1/2 of the cars there.  And we ended up 2nd in class behind my cousin Brian in his 1981 BMW 320.  Oh well, the excitement didn't end there.  Have you ever seen a chev full size van running on 100 octane gas?  Mmm, the van never smelt better :)  I was trying to push it to the Big Stop in Aulac, N.B. before getting gas and, well, we didn't make it.  But hey, thats why I've got the gas cans in the back, right.  Anyway, this trip was basically a write off, even if we did earn valuable points for the end of the year.  Well, maybe earn is too strong of a word, they kind of just fell in our laps.  Oh well.
