GORILLA BISCUITS/COMEBACK KID/MURPHY’S LAW/FUCKED UP

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 9TH, 2006

THE PHOENIX CONCERT THEATER

TORONTO, ON

FUCKED UP – Fucked Up was definitely a great way to get this show started. Awesome energy and stage presence. They played a great mix of old and new songs. It was weird seeing them in such a big venue, but it seemed to fit well. This band has never disappointed live, always great. If you haven’t seen this band, do yourself a favor and do so as soon as possible.

MURPHY’S LAW – This band just rules. One of the most fun live bands going. They always have great energy, and Jimmy G. is one of the most entertaining front-men around. Unfortunately it seemed that a lot of people weren’t really into them. Until they played Straight Edge by Minor Threat, and the entire place went off. Also, they didn’t seem as drunk as they normally are, which usually adds to the fun of their live show. It was still a great set regardless.

COMEBACK KID - Lately I haven’t really been feeling Comeback Kid, but that night they really surprised me. Andrew has definitely become a better front-man since the last time I saw them. He does a great job of getting everyone pumped. They had a good mix of old/new songs. It was good hearing a lot of the older songs being played. Especially songs that I haven’t heard them play in quite a while. Good set overall.

GORILLA BISCUITS – There’s really only one word to describe this. WOW. As much as some people are hating on GB for doing this tour, it was incredible seeing these songs played by the people who wrote them. They played pretty much every song I wanted to hear, and then some. Great Warzone and Project X covers as well. The energy during this set was unreal. And the vibe in the place was great, it was awesome looking around and seeing so many people with huge smiles on their faces. Overall they sounded a lot better than I was really expecting, especially after hearing the two new songs they had posted online. This was worth the 13 year wait for sure.
