"Oh, Rei. I'm so sorry! We all are," a 26-year old Usagi said to Rei one day.
"Yeah, Rei. Everything will turn out okay," agreed Makato.
"Is there anything we could do to help, Rei?" Ami asked.
"No," Rei replied tearfully,
"but thanks for comforting me. I really appreciate it." Minako snapped her fingers and said,
"I've got it! Let's go get some ice cream!" "Yeah! Great idea, Minako-chan. That might cheer you up, Rei," Usagi said. "All right," she answered slowly. And to the ice cream parlor they went.
***
"I can't believe they ran out of chocolate! This is sooo unfair!" whined Usagi.
"Oh, Usa-chan! Be quiet! You don't want to give Rei a migrane, do you?" Makato shushed her.
"Oh, gomen ne," she whispered.
"I still don't know why he dumped me," Rei spoke up, suddenly, her ice cream dripping. "Rei," Ami started, consolingly,
"I'm sure he had a good reason to,"
"Or maybe Jeff was just a big jerk!" Makato slammed her hand on the table.
"MAKATO!" "Whoops, sorry,"
"Anyways, Rei, just enjoy your ice cream," Usagi said. Rei nodded and started to lick.
"Mmm...WWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" Rei started to wheep.
"What? What is it?" Ami asked, alarmed. "It's just that *sniff* I can't even eat ice cream anymore," she replied. "Why?" "Because Jeff LOVED ice cream....WWAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!" *Sweatdrops*
"Rei, just eat your ice cream and just forget about him," Usagi said, patting Rei's back.
"You're right, Usagi. You're absolutely right. I should just... forget about him. And I will," Rei said, bravely.
Five seconds later...
"WWWWAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!"
*Sweatdrops* ***
"And well, Raye is really upset about Jeff dumping her. You should have seen her today! She was crying all over her ice cream!" a frustrated Usagi complained to her husband.
"And she hasn't eaten for a week?" Mamoru asked, surprised.
"YES! She won't get over the fact that Jeff dumped her!" "Boy, that IS a problem," he said, settling down on the couch. Usagi sighed, "I wish she wasn't such a drama queen!" and sat down next to Mamoru. He also sighed and put his arms around her.
"I mean, the girls and I tried everything we could today to cheer her up. BUT noooo! Rei kept going on and on. Do you know what I bet she's doing right now?" Usagi asked.
"What?"
"I bet she's parked out in front of Jeff's apartment, just waiting for him to come out. And when he does, she'll chain her herself to his leg!" Mamoru stifled a laugh. "She's that serious?"
"Yes, she's that serious. What am I going to do? I want to help her but she won't stop thinking about Jeff! Oh, what am I going to do, Mamo-chan?"
"How about treating her to a movie?" he suggested. "No, she'll just cry through the whole flick, saying that she used to love going to movies with Jeff," she answered lazily.
"A shopping spree?"
"Everytime we'll pass a store, she'll say that Jeff always liked to go shopping with her."
"The spring fair is coming up."
"The fair is where they had their first kiss."
"A walk around the park?"
"When she sees the daffodils, she'll think of the times Jeff bought her flowers."
"Well, I don't have anymore ideas, Usako."
"That's okay, Mamo-chan. I'll think of something," Usagi said, planting a kiss on his cheek. "I'm going to bed. I have a meeting at work tomorrow. I have to be there early."
"All right," he replied, giving her a good night kiss.
"See you tomorrow, love."
*** The next day, Mamoru went to the Crown before going to work. "Hey there, Mamoru!" Motoki called.
"Hi Motoki! Long time no see!" he answered.
"How's Reika and the baby?" "Oh, they're both fine! How are you and Usagi?" "We're great!"
"Heh, it's hard to believe that Odango Atama is now your wife," Motoki chuckled.
"So have you heard about Rei?"
"Yeah, Usako told me all about it last night."
"Rei won't talk to anyone except the girls. I can't believe she's so broken up about Jeff. Just look at her!" Motoki pointed to a booth in the back. Mamoru looked.
"Whoa! She looks terrible!" he whispered.
"I know," Motoki shook his head.
"Anyway, do you want anything?" Mamoru grinned.
"Motoki! I'm surprised at you! All these years we've known each other and you still don't know what I order?" Motoki also grinned and said,
"One black coffee coming right up!" As he was brewing his coffee, Mamoru walked over to Rei.
"Excuse me? Rei? It's me, Mamoru." Rei looked up and saw him. "Oh, hey Mamoru-san," and looked back down at her drink. "I, uh, I heard about...you know,"
"I KNOW!" she cried,
"but WHY DID HE DUMP ME???" She sobbed into her cup as Mamoru sighed.
"I'm really sorry, Mamoru. It's just that my ex-boyfriend completely ignored me when I saw him today," she said, wiping her tears.
"Oh,"
"Although I WAS parked out in front of his apartment all night and practically chained myself to his leg, he could've said hello, right?"
*Sweatdrop* 'Looks like you were right, Usako.' Mamoru thought.
"Look, Rei, if you ask me about my opinion on this situation, I think that you should just forget about this Jeff person."
"You know what, Mamoru? I think you're right! You're absolutely right! Thank you for your help!"
"Well, you're welcome. Just forget about him," Mamoru said. "Right, just forget about Jeff," she repeated.
Five seconds later...
"WWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!"
*Sweatdrop*
"Rei, crying won't help. Usagi told me everything and well, you shouldn't be a drama queen because---" "Wait a minute, did you just say that Usagi called me a DRAMA QUEEN?" Rei asked, shocked. "Well, yes. No! I mean no! I mean, well...sort of..."
"AND TO THINK I CALLED HER MY BEST FRIEND!" she stood up to leave.
"Rei, wait. All I was saying that as a flake like her, you should really not be waiting for someone---"
"OH, SO I'M A FLAKE TOO?!" she gathered her things and walked to the exit. Mamoru followed her, trying to stop her. "No, you're not a flake! All I'm saying that as a flake like her, you really shouldn't be---"
"SO WHAT YOU'RE SAYING IS, I'M A FLAKE!"
"NO! You're not a flake! I SAID---"
"I don't have to take this, Mamoru! GOOD-BYE!" and she was out the door.
"Um, good luck with your problems!!!" he shouted after her. Mamoru then turned to look at Motoki. All he did was shake his head and say,
"Usagi-chan will not be happy. I pity you, my friend." *** A few hours later, Mamoru returned home to a VERY angry wife. When he opened the door to their apartment, everything was pitch black. He flicked on the lights and what he saw scared him. Usagi was sitting on the sofa, her face was straight, and her usual happy smile was gone. What replaced it was a mouth pressed into a line. Mamoru knew he was in trouble.
"Usako?" She didn't answer. He tried again but she still didn't answer.
"Usako?" he tried one last time. "Don't you ever call me Usako again," she replied in a low, monotonous voice. Mamoru smiled weakly and said,
"I guess you heard from Rei, didn't you?" She turned to face him. Anger showed in her eyes.
"I'm...sorry?" She got up, went to their bedroom and shut the door. Ten minutes later, she emerged, carrying her overnight bag. She put on her shoes and headed for the door.
"Wait," Mamoru grabbed her arm,
"where are you going?" All she did was sniff at him and wrenched out of his grasp. She opened the door but he blocked the exit.
"Where are you going?" he asked again. She glared at him and growled,
"Get out of my way."
"Not until you tell me where you're going." She stared at him viciously and answered,
"Away from you," and shoved him aside. She put her foot out the door but didn't manage her whole body. He held her back by wrapping his arms around her waist, restraining her from leaving. Suddenly, Usagi stopped struggling. She pried his hands off of her and headed back to the bedroom. She shut the door but came out again ten seconds later. In her arms were a pillow and a blanket. She shoved them into Mamoru's arms and went back into the bedroom. Mamoru waited but she didn't come out again.
"Well, it looks like it's the couch for me,"
***
Five days passed by and Usagi still hadn't spoken to Mamoru. Everyday, Mamoru tried to talk to his mad wife but all he got was silence. He bought flowers, jewelry and a brand new stuffed bunny but she still wouldn't answer his pleas for forgiveness. Now, we see Mamoru at the Crown, telling Motoki his problem.
"You know, Mamoru. I don't know what you should do to make her stop giving you the cold shoulder. Maybe you should try something romantic," Motoki suggested.
"I bought her roses everyday. She wouldn't accept them." he answered, tiredly.
"Or maybe you should try getting her and Rei back together," Mamoru brightened.
"Motoki, you're a genius! Why didn't I figure it out before? Where does Rei work?"
"She's a waitress at Vitello's, you know, that Italian restaurant," he answered.
"Thanks, Motoki! I owe you one!" Mamoru ran out the door. He went home, then went straight to the phone book. He flipped through the pages until he found the number to Vitello's. He called them and reserved a table for two. Now all he had to do was wait for Usagi to come home.
***
*CREAK* Usagi opened the door to the apartment and was met by darkness. She turned on the lights and in front of her was Mamoru, carrying roses. She passed him and headed for the bedroom, but he stopped her.
"Oh no, you don't," he whispered, grabbing her wrist. Usagi put on her angry face again and glared at him.
"You're coming to dinner with me. And you can order all the lobster you want," he said, pulling her out the door. She tried to yank her hand out of his but he was too strong. He dragged her to the elevator and when they got in, he let go of her. She turned away from him and crossed her arms, staying silent. When the elevator stopped at the lobby, they both got out. Serena walked ahead of him quickly and were soon outside. She glanced at him briefly and ran back into the building, but Mamoru caught up with her, him being Tuxedo Kamen and all, and pulled her into their car. She put on her seatbelt, crossed her arms and looked out the window, the whole way to the restaurant.
***
When they arrived at Vitello's, they were led to the reserved table immediately...and Usagi was still not talking to Mamoru. Just then, a waitress stopped at their table, with menus in her hand. Usagi looked up and saw...Rei.
"REI!"
"USAGI!"
"What is SHE doing her?" They both hissed at Mamoru.
"Well, uh, surprise?" he said meekly.
"Now, look, Rei, sit down," he pushed her into his chair and took her menus,
"Both of you, I want you to talk things over. Okay? Talk things over."
"But what about the customers?" Rei asked.
"I'll take care of them," he answered.
"Excuse me! I need a waiter!" a woman called from a table at the front.
"COMING!" he shouted.
"Now you two, just talk." And talk they did. Okay...so it wasn't really talking. It was more like...yelling. And while they were yelling, Mamoru was having a hard time with the customers.
"Young man...young man...YOUNG MAN!" Mamoru broke out of his stare at the two yelling women and turned his attention to an elderly senior.
"Yes? May I help you?"
"Well, I was wondering...what's the fish of the day?" the woman asked.
"Well...it's a fish...that the chef...cooks especially for...today?" he said with a meek smile.
"That was NOT the answer I was looking for," she said in a firm voice. Mamoru scratched his head.
"I didn't think so. Hehe, I'll find out what it is. I'll be right back." He headed for Rei and Usagi, who were still arguing. "Hey, uh, guys! How about stopping this 'talk' for a few seconds?"
"I'm LEAVING!" Rei got up, but he sat her right back down.
"No, don't leave! You were doing such a good job, talking! Keep going! Oh, and by the way, Rei, what's the fish of the day?"
"Baked trout in marinade sauce but we're out of it," Rei answered lazily.
"Okay, thanks. Now go right on talking!" Mamoru went back to the woman.
"I'm really sorry, ma'am but we're fresh out of fish. How about some nice chicken?" he asked.
"Yeah, all right. Chicken is just fine, sonny." she answered. "All righty, chicken...what kind of chicken?"
"Well, what kind of chicken do you serve?"
"Um...I'll be right back, ma'am." He rushed over to the arguing two again.
"---no, it's all my fault, Usa. I shouldn't have overreacted. I really---" Rei was interrupted.
"Really sorry to disturb you guys, but what kind of chicken do you serve here?" Mamoru said, out of breath.
"Anything from fried to grilled, now would you mind giving us some privacy?" Rei said, exasperated?
"Sure, sure," and he left them alone.
"Well, young man?" "We cook anything from fried chicken to grilled chicken."
"Er...do you actually work here, sonny?" the woman asked.
"Well...yes...but...not really...but...I'LL BE RIGHT BACK!" he shouted, running back to the other table.
"---I'm really sorry, Rei. I shouldn't have said those---"
"Hello! I'm glad you've made up now. So, everything's all right?" Mamoru asked, hopefully.
"Oh yes, now I think I should be getting back to work now. Thanks again, Usagi-chan!" Rei took the menus out of Mamoru's hands and went inside the kitchen. At the same time, Usagi stood up to leave.
"Wait!" Mamoru said, grabbing her elbow. Usagi turned around to glare at him. "Where are you going?"
"I'm hailing a cab and going home," she answered, looking like she was about to blow her top.
"But you made up with Rei! Everything's fine!"
"Everything is NOT fine,"
"Well, then, what's wrong?" he asked. She paused for moment.
"Why did you call me a flake?" she asked, hurt.
"I didn't call you a flake!" he protested. Usagi raised an eyebrow.
"Okay, so maybe I did call you a flake, but flakes are good! A pie's crust is flaky!" he admitted. She turned around, walking to the door. "No wait!" He blocked her. She glared at him again as she shouted with venom in her voice,
"YOU CALL ME A FLAKE AND YOU DARE TRY TO STOP ME FROM GOING HOME? WELL, this EXPECTING FLAKE SAYS THAT YOU CAN SLEEP OUTSIDE TONIGHT AND FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!" and she took off her wedding ring and threw it at him. He caught the ring, then stared at her. By now, they had caught the whole restaurant's attention.
"Wha-what do you mean, 'expecting'?" he asked, confused. "I'M PREGNANT, YOU IDIOT!!!" and SMACK! She slapped him in the face. Everyone in the restaurant were awestruck, but Mamoru was more shocked than anyone else. Usagi proceeded to walk out the door, but he, once again, stopped her. So she walked through another door...the door to the ladies' room. Mamoru groaned and paced around, nervously, waiting for his wife to come out. But after a few minutes, he couldn't take it anymore and charged right in...to the ladies' room. Inside, he saw Usagi behind the counter, wiping her tears away. He didn't say anything, but looked around.
"Hey, you've got a couch in here!"
"It's for women to sit and ponder about why God created men," she answered, hurt showing in her voice. "Hehe, that's a good one," he chuckled, then stopped when he realized that she wasn't laughing.
"I mean, ahem, I'm sorry, Usako," he said, walking towards Usagi.
"YOU'RE SORRY? IS THAT ALL YOU CAN SAY? I REALLY HATE THAT WORD, SORRY!" she yelled, starting to cry again. Mamoru put a hand on her shoulder but she shrugged it off. She got up to leave but he, once again, blocked her.
"We're already in the womens' bathroom. You can't escape me, now," he said. "Oh yeah?" she challenged him. She turned around and stomped into...a bathroom stall. She locked the door and stayed there. He sighed deeply and pounded on the stall. "Usako, I'm sorry. I really am. I don't know what I was doing before, but to lose you, I'd die. You're my life, Usako, and I can't live without you. I'd do anything for your forgiveness, ANYTHING! I'd even give you the world if I could." He pulled at his hair stressfully. "I'm so sorry, Usako. I don't deserve you. I never did. So if you think you'll be much happier without me in your life, then I'll leave. I'll leave you, so you and our child will be happy." He walked to the door and put his hand on the knob.
"But just to let you know, I'll always love you and the baby and I'll protect both of you, even if it meant I had to die. Good bye, Usako," and turned the knob. But he didn't get very far because the stall's door also opened.
"No!" Usagi cried, fresh tears coming down.
"I...I love you, too...Mamo-chan," and ran into his arms.
"Oh, Usako," he murmered into her hair. Usagi continued to cry into his chest as he held her. A few minutes later, Mamoru let go of her. He cupped her face and wiped her tears away with his thumb. She looked up thankfully and smiled. Then he reached into his pocket and took out her ring. He slid it back onto her finger and kissed her forehead.
"So...is it really true?"
"What's true?"
"That you're going to have our baby?" he asked. She nodded and took his hand into hers and placed it on her growing stomach. Mamoru had never felt so much joy. He then took her into his arms once more and kissed her like he'd never kissed before.
"So...do I still get that lobster?"
